For Linux market share to rise there must be a hardware push.
As long as Windows is the only OS preinstalled in the pcs sold in the Walmarts or bestbuy of this world (North America), the share will not move by much. That was just a wild example, but seeing Steam Machines sold besides PS4s and Xboxes in such bigbox stores is a pleasing tought.
Still, Linux gaming needs a second Steam Machine generation and with the latest AMD+Valve developments, it seems likely.
Let's cross our fingers. :)

Quoting: tuubiYep. It feels like corruption of some sort. If you try to restart the game immediately after a crash it will crash again, everytime, in the first minutes of the "relaunch". After a reboot, the crash doesn't occur for quite a while... Until another "corruption".Quoting: DanglingPointerWell I've never had the game crash at all. Only bug I've noticed is sometimes when giving water to thristy wanderers I end up floating down from a few feet back to the ground. I've never died for no reason whatsover.Perhaps. Or perhaps you've been lucky. Just for the record I had my first crash sometime after crossing over to the Dead Barrens, and most of them much further into the game. They seemed to be completely random and happened all over the map though. Looking at all the reports of bugs and crashes on Windows around the web, I doubt these have anything to do with Linux or our drivers.
I'm on AMD radeonSI open source drivers though I can see you've got a GTX960. Perhaps the nvidia driver's buggy.

Quoting: CreakI'm not there yet because of bad AMD choices I made in the past, but I'm looking toward a Ryzen + Vega combo with a lot of hype. If the promises are met by AMD and it's looking good, it's only a matter of time before I make the jump, for sure.Quoting: MohandevirFor sure. Maintenance free, kernel-integrated solution. It becomes a no-brainer for Valve. And, must I add, for the users as well.
Enjoying mind free, plug'n'play AMD GPUs since 2014 :D

Quoting: buenaventuraAbove all I feel that AMD is preferable since you can run FOSS drivers. With NVIDIA, the foss driver will (it seems) always be pretty crap. For sure. Maintenance free, kernel-integrated solution. It becomes a no-brainer for Valve.

Vulkan gaining traction + viable AMD Linux drivers = Steam Machine-V2? Along with a new version of SteamOS (3rd priority)?
In this link they are not yet talking about Ryzen + Vega.
Even if I like my Nvidia + Intel rig, I must admit that AMD's solution is much more affordable.
We've just got another proof that Valve has not abandonned Linux. It feels like they are just working on other priorities to make the Linux ecosystem more viable for gaming.

What is going on with Dirt Rally? Isn't it the Spacious Sky from Feral (total speculation)?
This one I'm really waiting for. Still got Mad Max to finish and Deus Ex in my backlog though. It's not really an "emergency" but it's the one I'm most hyped for besides The Witcher 3... that will probably never come... *Sigh*

Quoting: Mountain ManTotally true. Cookies before, to get the Linux version done and wallet, to buy the game that got released because of the cookies. :)Quoting: MohandevirThe best way to support Linux is still to send cookies to the likes of Aspyr and Feral.Actually, the very best way to ensure Linux support is to keep buying Linux games. Developers care a lot more about their wallets than they do their bellies.
Get them by the belly! Trolls can't get a bite at these! :)

The comments about Linux developpment are really pleasant to read. We need more developpers to think and act like that.
I don't know if it's my kind of game, but I'm going to buy it just to support the mindset. :)
