In the first place we currently have to deal with some remaining graphics issues like screen flickering and missing post effects, which are probably related to broken custom stencil buffers.i bet this is the same issue with ARK as well.

a little while back I installed windows for a couple of days on an extra HD I had laying about just to see what it's like to run Ark and some other games. what I discovered is that the quality of the shaders are better on windows (because they have all the things working as intended), but the overall look was more cartoony and ran slower overall than compared to the current Linux version. at least on my system. because on the exact same settings for each system I was only getting 45 to 35 fps on windows but on Linux I was getting 50 to 70 fps on high with some epic settings like texture quality.
But the funny thing about the Linux client the textures look more "realistic" because of the lack of shaders apparently. although in some of the more recent builds (since around Jan 2017) I've noticed that some shadows on Linux have gotten better, although the caves are still borked to hell. the artifacts from exiting water has gotten a lot better.
This has been one circus of a game that's for sure.

thanks for the review I've been on the fence about it for awhile. I'll leaning toward not getting it right now. but i'll wait and see how this develops later on. hopefully the devs put more work into it.

I had to grab this just for the nostalgia. I wasted a few dollars in the arcade just to beat this, back when this first came out.

the AUR version is maintained by mojang employees, shoghicp uses Arch, that is why this exists at all.
this is the pinned comment from the AUR:

We have no "current" release for any Linux distribution, due to some issues that we are working on fixing.
As soon as we have any release, we will update this package. Note that any old versions (like this one, or current "new" one some people are suggesting to use) might stop working in the future, until we fix these issues.

when steam hit the active users of 125mil mark it had 8.9mil concurrent users. In January 2017 Steam had 14mil, considering how the amount of Linux user sort of dropped % wise. it would be because of a surge of new players.
considering the average of concurrent users when up an average of 62%. which would put steam roughly 202mil active users. Linux users are roughly 1.25mil in February 2015. and are now approximately 1.6mil in 2017 so far.

Feral never ceases to amaze me. the community teamwork effort they are doing to help Mesa along with Vulkan will be the key for Linux going forward. it looks like Feral may be able to push out more ports soon because of how effective they seem to be from all the Vulkan work. I can't wait to see how GRID autosport performs on android.

I've been hoping to see this one get a port since they were using vulkan instead of dx12. will be an instant buy once we get a beta build.
