I started with Mint and actually ran it on my laptop for a while, but I switched to Fedora because I wanted KDE, Wayland and newer packages. I still recommend Mint Cinnamon to beginners though - when you're getting started, what you want is stable packages and a familiar interface.

I've actually been using Godot a lot recently. I don't like GDScript because it's whitespace-sensitive, but I have found an extension that allows me to write stuff in Rust which I'm more familiar with.
I don't see the need for a fancy JetBrains IDE for my use case though. Kate does everything I need for writing Rust.

I'll take part in their hardware survey if I get prompted for it. I'm already choosing to give full telemetry data to KDE.

It also gives me an excuse to learn the engine itself.

Is that Sonic Colors Ultimate or something else? I'm curious :)Mostly just messing around with Sonic ideas in the engine itself. I've been trying to come up with ideas for a Sonic RPG.

Not surprised, really. They've been pushing this one back for a while now.
As a big Sonic fan I'll probably skip this since I'm not into mobile games and apparently from those who've been able to play the beta it's extremely grindy. I'm getting my Sonic fix from Godot of all things now.

I guess I'll update then. Fedora 41 will probably still be supported for a while but I'd like to get the new stuff.
SDL 3 officially released for game devs plus an SDL 2 to SDL 3 compatibility layer

I found out about the existence of SDL3 recently, but since it isn't in any repositories to my knowledge I instead decided to try learning SDL2 instead. Didn't get super far because trying to get Cargo to notice the assets folder was an exercise in frustration and basically required learning another whole library, but hey.
My language of choice is Rust and I was able to get a crate for SDL3 it at least. That does require sourcing the SDL3 C libraries from elsewhere though and I wasn't in the mood to compile it. If SDL3 gets added to Fedora's and Arch's repos then I'll absolutely look into it, even if it means having to write makefiles and subjecting myself to C++

We're getting a Palworld x Terraria crossover, major Palworld update in December

The only one of these games that I've played is Terraria and I'm not really interested in Palworld, but Terraria's crossovers usually entail something interesting. Speaking of crossovers with games that I haven't played, the next update's supposed to have Dead Cells stuff. Did that come out while I wasn't looking?
Not sure what this'll do to the Switch version of Terraria, although it's a game that's ideally played in PC anyway. To be completely honest the Switch was always by least favourite Nintendo console.

Well, during my Sonic Frontiers playthrough I was using the Steam Deck as a controller. I streamed the game to it but just looked at my monitor. It brought be back to my Wii U days.
I would be curious to see how a new controller with all the SD's features would work. Knowing Valve it would have great Linux support (unlike the Xbox Series controller I use which won't even show up on my Bluetooth list; works fine wired though). I felt that the Steam Deck's control options were very good, so having that on the desktop with the added bonus of, y'know, actually showing up on my Bluetooth list (admittedly Nintendo's controllers do, but the button layout is different and my brother uses them for the Switch).
Bonus points if someone can get it to work with the MiSTer. A lot of the retro computer cores on there (such as the Amiga) are mouse-focused but I haven't got any spare mice. If it has the dual trackpads from the Steam Deck though then it'll work pretty well for those use cases.
