More of an extremely limited toy, going by the first demo.

So, it's back to the original, without the "Director's Cut" changes?

Apparently, there is willingness. Just a matter of, y'know, getting the license (and not having it yoinked from them mid-development as was the case with their Activision deal), the funding, and the team to make it.

And then there's the fact that Jane has been writing garbage in industrial quantities for over a decade.

And then I look back at Moebius, which is horribly written and, somehow, designed even worse than that, and I'm not sure a GK4 is safe with Jane Jensen anymore. I'm hoping that new GK story will be sensational... but it probably won't be.

All this said, I'm excusing the terrible art direction in the GK1 remake. They had a tiny budget and Activision screwing with their deal, so I'll let issues like a comic book page with three different and clashing art styles pass. Although... that is also concerning, seeing as a potential GK4 would also be very much indie.
Yeah, you're right, most likely won't be any good and maybe leave it as it is for now.
I'll still be reading that story, because I really would like more GK...

If you built a base on the planet, it was still there upon your return. Still, it happened to me once that while exploring a planet in my starship I 'accidentally' found another crashed ship, so I landed nearby, repaired the found/crashed ship and took off with the new one to test it. I was never able to find my original landed ship again :-(
I don't know if this was always the case (got it at launch, refunded it, came back years after), but for a good few years now at least it's been possible to summon all owned ships through the menu thingy. Whatever you hopped on last is your main ship, but you do have access to all of them.

Highly depends. If you feel like just exploring planets and gathering stuff to maybe build/improve stuff is fun to you - then yes. If you're expecting a game with crunchy mechanics - no.

My take is that at launch NMS was terrible at the former, and now it's quite good at it. It'll never be good as a "proper" game, though, because that's clearly not the goal. It's more of a chill experience with some gamey bits that provide some sense of direction and progression, but that don't tie you to them if you don't care for them. Maybe grab it on sale and try it out then?

GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin moves to a more rapid release cycle

Quoting: ssj17vegetaNot gonna lie, considering Nintendo's recent behaviour, my heart skipped a beat when I read the first words of the title.
Easiest clickbait opportunity I've seen, and just about everyone reporting on this is taking it. Props to Liam for explicitly stating what's up instead of going for the clicks.

Also, not a great time for any announcements regarding... certain emulators. They're on sheet music now, so it's clear we're way past any kind of reason here. I'd lay very low.
The Dolphin Team received legal counsel back in the Steam page debacle and are quite firm in their belief that they do not violate any US laws, including the DMCA.
Well, the opposite side might have equally firm - and opposite - beliefs. More importantly, a dragon-like hoard of gold

I hope that nothing happens, but, as I mentioned, they're attacking people for sheet music at this point. I get that protecting your properties is a huge deal, but that feels like overkill bordering on the Nintendo legal department desperately trying to justify their existence.

Steam Summer Sale 2024 is live now

This sale I'm pretty much joining the New Steam Sales Naysayers in that a lot of the stuff I'm interested in is actually more expensive than it has been in recent sales due to either a price increase, a lower discount, or both. The rest is either not on sale at all, or nowhere near a price point I'd pull the trigger at.
I suspect that publishers have decided not to drastically discount their titles to the degree that they used to, despite the desperately immense competition on the Steam store from all the titles competing for our dollars. Heavy discounts encourage players to wait for another heavy discount again. So why bother with that when you could decide 30% is your title's lifetime max discount?
Combine that with standard price creeps, e.gm Skyrim's slow base-price increase, and we have a recipe for higher prices and less interesting sales. Combine that with many of ours' bloated steam libraries and we probably aren't buying much at all.
Oh, yeah, the sales now are quite different. These days pretty much everything gets discounted every couple of months, but the sales aren't that deep. Back then you'd have deep dales a couple times a year, and flash sales that'd go even deeper. The result of years of that is that I still don't view 75% off as that great of a bargain. I can't be rewired, but newcomers likely don't have that issue - and there has been a lot of them - so I'm not sure it's a loss overall for Steam.

It probably does help the industry a little bit, but that is just the tip of the "current problems" iceberg. No/limited discount policy does help certain indies, but that's a very select group (Factorio and Rimworld, basically).

And if you're coming from Nintendo sales this is still insane deals.

Quoting: PenglingOh god, is it that time again already? (She says, even though it's only her second-ever Steam Summer Sale.)

The store is loading REALLY slowly right now, and I've never seen this before!

Blah blah blah... Because it's a sale Pengling is obligated to point out that a Bomberman game is in it [External Link]... Yadda yadda yadda...

Anyway, I'll post another comment about any pickups once I manage to get my wishlist to load!
I wonder if that's a sign of more people flocking to the sale, or if they just cut down on the capacity. Throughout the recent few sales there were basically no issues whatsoever, but in the olden days Steam would just go down for hours. I'd stay away the first day - there'd be no point in even trying to access the store.

I'll probably end up getting some indies, but nothing crazy. I guess that's not entirely a bad thing, though <looks at backlog that'd take multiple lifetimes to get through>.
