The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU has been announced and new Ryzen CPUs coming

Quoting: tuubiThe 5700 (XT) they brought out months ago was aimed at 1440p.
Resolution alone isn't the only factor. For example with TW3 (dxvk), 5700 XT doesn't fully use 2560x1400 / 144 Hz. I.e. right now it maxes out at around 80-110 fps. So depending on the monitor refresh rate, the card can be utilized fully and still not reach the potential maximum of the monitor.
This is what worries me when thinking about getting a Valve Index.

It features a total screen pixel count of 2880x1600 and refresh rates of (I think) 90 Hz, 120 Hz and 144 Hz.
Though surlely depending on the game, it sounds like a 5700 XT is just not powerful enough to properly drive a Valve Index.
It would have been really helpful to get an announcement of new products from AMD with rough performance figures. If it's worth waiting or not.
A 5700 XT is not small money for me, where I can replace it in some month with something better.

How disappointing. Really.
Especially as an announcement doesn't even mean it's around the corner.
They are likely still working on RDNA2. Would be nice to get something more powerful than 5700 XT, but not really at crazy prices that approach $1000. I suspect their immediate "big Navi" is aiming at replacing Radeon VII which is going to be very expensive.
I don't think RDNA2 for the next product lineup is not done yet.
Maybe it still needs tweaking on the driver side because of RT or whatever.
It's a pity...
Sounds like we won't get big Navi before autumn.

Quoting: wvstolzingI've recently seen a tweet by game developer Matt Stark, who seems to be developing a very similar type of game: https://twitter.com/mattstark256/status/1213156890475212800?s=20 [External Link]
Haha, I wanted to post exactly the same tweet. :D

Was just struggling if it is possible here to embed a tweet. (?)

Mike Shapiro drops a cryptic message from G-Man for the upcoming Half-Life: Alyx

Quoting: WorMzyI was excited for Alyx, until it was confirmed that it is a VR exclusive. Hopefully poor sales will prompt them to revise that decision and release a more accessible version of the game.
... And if HL:Alyx is successful, HL3 will still not be made.
My bet is they will seize opportunity and resolve the cliffhanger from HL2:E2 in HL:Alyx.
Valve explicitly said, everyone who wants to play HL:Alyx should play HL2:E2 first.
Then, I read many times about some time traveling being part of the story.
Do the math.

This would certainly take away a lot of pressure from Valve.
If that would be a good prospect for HL3... I don't know.

Just my 2 cents.

It's not fair to call this game an "exclusive". It was simply made for VR, you just can't get the same level of control without it.
Yep, Valve even supports products of competitors and I wager they even try to make Alyx to run as good as possible on non-Index kits.

Compare that to Oculus-exclusive approach for instance ...

Why isn't possible to just order it even if it's currently out of stock?
What worries me is that it may indicate that it'll take some time before it's back in stock?
Or simply a sales trick to channel more potential buyers towards the Index.
Never underestimate customers seeing stuff selling like hot cake.

Otherwise, they could just take orders now and buyers would have to acknowledge that there is no ETA yet.
Payment when on stock and shipped.

A peek at how many of the most popular games on Steam support Linux, December 2019 edition
29 Dec 2019 at 7:49 pm UTC

Quoting: Liam DaweThe main thing though: Windows gets a LOT more junk. Honestly, 90% of it is just whatever someone could push out once they've paid to be on Steam. A lot of them just reskins of Unity, Unreal, Game Maker etc game packs and complete rip-offs of other popular games with 90% less effort put in. I honestly find with indie games, a lot of the time if they're on Linux they're the ones with some effort put into them.
Fair point!

Hi Liam,

thanks for the work!

While the absolute number of Linux releases per month is certainly interesting,
I'd be even more interested in what fraction that represents with respect to the total number of games released in that very month.

Would that be possible?

The number of games released per year on Steam increases every year for the last 10 years
