NVIDIA have released the big new Linux Beta driver 440.26 today

For the first bug, it seems that it hasn't caught any attention from a dev?
Consider heading to Phoronix (yeah, I know...) and try to contact Bridgman or Marek Olsak.
Wouldn't be the first time this brings specific issues into focus and got resolved soon.
Next GPU will be AMD again for sure.
Unless intel comes up with something competitive.
Nvidia in the current state is simply a no-go to me.
Don't say it's zealotery.
It's just that I like companies that respect ideas and values of communities and ecosystems.
So while people often praise Nvidia for their "great Linux support", think again:
Is the way Nvidia strategically acts is really something to consider "support" of the idea of Linux?

Quoting: barottoThis is unfortunate indeed.Quoting: EikeEssentially this, random hangs: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111481 [External Link] (which is really bad because affects desktop stability)Quoting: barottoI switched to AMD for my current build to try and support the open source friendly company, and frankly I'm already regretting it.I'm interested in your experiences...
But also this: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111482 [External Link] (which is quite annoying because the fans are constantly spinning up and down)

Quoting: EikeHaha. ;)Quoting: subAnyone else wants Steam listing the engine on the store page? You're not missing it...
Or am I missing it?
This would be helpful to me.
For example, all Unity games seem to melt my notebook.
I'd for now better stay away from them.
... and I'm not missing it, either. :)

Quoting: dreamer_Tegra drivers are partly upstreamed because OEM partners/customers pressured them to do so.Quoting: subIt was never about GPU desktop drivers. It was about the overall attitude of NVIDIA corporation towards kernel, and specifically about NVIDIA chipsets for Android market. Soon afterwards NVIDIA actually started cooperating more and big chunks of Tegra platform got upstreamed in the kernel. So given this context: Linus' outburst was appropriate and successful.Quoting: linuxcitylinus can't throw up that middle finger anymore this is a pretty damn good release.Get back to why he thought rising that middle finger was appropriate.
Not sure, that "pretty damn good release" changed anything of that. :)

Couldn't find this with Google or on Twitter directly, but I'm not sure I would if it exists. :)Quoting: Grim85When Stadia was announced I asked them [Feral] on Twitter if the footage of Shadow of the Tomb Raider was their work and they said it was nothttps://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/phoronix/latest-phoronix-articles/1132685-shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-coming-to-linux-on-5-november?p=1132779#post1132779 [External Link]
This make things even harder to find.
That's why I said "take it with a grain of salt".
Maybe someone finds that tweet.

The Linux port of Shadow of Mordor from Feral Interactive has gained a Vulkan Beta, a massive difference
17 Oct 2019 at 2:38 pm UTC
The upcoming RDR2 for PC will require 150 GB of free space.
And AAA games close to 100 GB are not that rare anymore.

Quoting: GuestThe only problem with this, is that I have to decide what games to uninstall so as I can try it out. The problems of such limited drive space. That's indeed an issue for me as well. :/
I'll try to update with how this goes for me. Cheers Feral, for the efforts.

I still have an old 7950 paired with an ancient Phenom II X4 940 and 8G of ram.
I'm amazed what this combination is still able deliver.
I'm not lying, DOOM (2016) and Wolfenstein 2 run smooth as butter on 1980p
with that rig and it looks great (at least under Windows, haven't tried SteamPlay).

Quoting: dubigrasuBut that was a long time ago (in terms of DXVK development) and I used an old weak card to begin with.Ha, that's a Radeon HD 7970. :D

Maybe they added Vulkan support to the engine and Feral could leverage large parts, thus, making this update an option at all. Which would be great, btw.
Yet, I wouldn't hold my breath them investing lots of money into a Vulkan backend from scratch on older titles.
Would be even greater. :)

Quoting: dubigrasuIs there a chance this significant update for an older game was only suitable with an update of the LithTech engine by Monolith Productions?Quoting: BrisseNice. I agree with others here though in that DE:MD is the one that really needs this sort of enhancement.I wouldn't mind to see the same treatment applied to the old GL TR 2013 though, it still has some areas where even on relative newer HW it drops the perf to the floor.

Quoting: dubigrasuAnd about this sudden Vulkan build, makes you wonder what else Feral is cooking...Indeed, maybe they are updating the LithTech engine for a Shadow of War release with Vulkan and are porting back that stuff.
Would be even greater. :)

Or Liam maybe uses his connections to just ask them.
I wouldn't be surprised if the companies strengthen their in-house Vulkan and Linux know how,
instead of relying to 3rd party porting studios, when they strategically plan long term with Stadia.
