I'd extra pay for a serious single-player campaign!
Really!

Nvidia To Show Off Vulkan On NVIDIA GPUs & An OpenGL Linux Graphics Debugger

This one-time chance is not yet gone.
But I agree, a good AMD Vulkan driver must follow quickly after the final spec is released.
Everything points to this year's SIGGRAPH.

Quoting: blackout24I think AMD missed an easy opportunity to improve their reputation with the Linux community. Without them Vulkan wouldn't be anywhere now, but they didn't show of anything Vulkan related at GDC...NVIDIA did, Intel did, PowerVR guys did...And now they let NVIDIA come off as the spearhead of Vulkan and OpenGL Linux gaming.Exactly that!

NVidia supports OpenCL 1.2 since April this year.
However, I don't think they lag behind because of the money involved to support OpenCL 2.0.
It's a political thing. I guess they could rather quickly wire up a OpenCL 2.x interface from their CUDA backend (or whatever intermediate layer there is for the compute stuff).

Quoting: StebsOh, indeed. Thanks for making me aware of the recent addition!Quoting: subCorrection: Nvidia supports OpenCL 1.2, while AMD supports OpenCL 2.0Quoting: Guestpretty sure nvidia still don't have OpenCL 2.0 support either. They don't even support OpenCL 1.2, released end of 2011.
Will be interesting if Nvidia will still lag so far behind with OpenCL 2.1, now that they have to mess around with SPIR-V anyway...

Quoting: MyeulCThanks everyone for this information. I have one more question : since DX12 is very similar to Mantle [External Link], we can expect it to be very similar to vulkan, right ? Will it make a difference in the porting effort to vulkan ? Or is it something we don't know for sure yet?If they didn't change much, we will see that once the final Vulkan documentation is released, the Mantle and Vulkan API has a very large overlap - to the point that most (if not all) Vulkan functions in the initial draft just changed prefixes from gr (Mantle) to vk (Vulkan).

It clearly highlights the proprietary character soaked in that company.
And it clearly shows that OpenCL (together with good driver support)
is a good API. Otherwise, they could just let the users decide between
CUDA and OpenCL - if CUDA is really the better "product".
But it's more or less the same - granted, with good library support - but
actually meant as a vendor lock-in.
And it worked out... unfortunately.
NVidia is NOT your friend if you care a bit of software and hardware freedom.

I own a Phenom II X4 940. Yes, it's old (2009?).
Thing is - it's still doing a very good job with new AAA games alongside a Radeon HD 7950... on Windows.
It seems games that are making effective use of multi threading will still make fun with this CPU when coupled
with a reasonable GPU.
Unfortunately, my experience is that many AAA Linux ports seem to rely on high single-core
performance because they either drop multi threading completely or doing it less optimized.

Quoting: edddeduckferalThe AMD Phenom II is a pretty old CPU design now and it is missing some maths library features that modern games and compilers often use. With things like physics being able to use some SSE instructions can be very useful. Thanks for the info.

Such a thing exists?
I thought activating and playing the game on Steam Linux is enough
to make sure Feral gets the money - no matter where you got a valid Steam key.

Can you comment on how good communication with AMD (and the results) has been so far?

Quoting: edddeduckferalThanks, that's a nice bit of information.Quoting: MaelraneAny chance being able to play this with the amd open source drivers? (Radeonsi mesa-git or even R600?)The game uses OpenGL 4.3+ as a minimum to render correctly. This rules out open source drivers for any card until support is completed.
If you use the latest closed source AMD drivers released just a few weeks ago you should be able to play but not at a standard where we felt official support was possible.
As we said on Twitter we're working with AMD in regards to AMD card support.
Very appreciated! :)
