Beaver city-builder Timberborn confirmed for launch on March 5

Been playing it for years. It's cute and pretty relaxing just watching your little beavers run around and there are no "enemies" or "evil" outside of starvation or sickness. It has some niggles and when you find a balance of food / water to beaver ratio it's pretty easy to just "sit and build" without worrying about food. Expansion and population growth is the hard balance to strike.

My only real problem with it is that the inter-city "trade" just doesn't work well / is buggy / should be smarter.

Cool. Wake me when DDR5 prices come back down out of the stratosphere. Until then this is just performance art.

Factorio mod developer and Hooded Horse reveal new automation game Substructure

That's a blatent rip-off of the art style, etc...., but I guess imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery.

That being said; it's not native Linux, so I'll just keep giving my money to Factorio since we have that option.

Yeah, love their games even though I tend to suck at them. However, I got off the Paradox treadmill a few years back and dropping native Linux is just a pass for me. It's not THAT hard when you're starting from scratch to build in Linux support especially if you target the Steam runtime. Combine that with multi $100s of mostly cosmetic upgrades that tend to change the core gameplay loop quite a bit "just because" and it's just a pass until it's been out awhile or just a pass period.

They've also shown over and over that they love making games LOOK good, but have an utter disdain for making them actually perform well once you get into the medium and late game. Their engines tend to suck ass once you scrub the veneer off. Stellaris being the perfect example. They've flipped flop from core "ways" of doing things (how they count pops, etc...) so many times it's almost a meme by now.

Shark Dentist looks a bit silly, tense, gruesome and I need to play it

@purple library guy.

Not quite / additionally. It depends on the species. A lot of sharks need to swim to keep water going past their gills so they can breathe. I don't know the percenatage that can / can't "breathe", ie: pump water through their gills with swimming, like most fish can / do. Those tidal caves also tend to have strong currents moving water in and out, so they can stay oxygenated. You are right they don't have swim bladders and can sink, but that's not the only reason some of them need to keep moving.

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is now open source

Microsoft is all about subscription $$$ to Azure and Cloud services. "Windows", while still important to them, is NOT the direct money maker anymore. It exists to funnel you to Azure services and monthly subscriptions (OneDrive, O365 services, etc..). More than 50% of the workload in Azure is Linux based and Microsoft even uses Linux "under-the-hood" for a lot of things. So, them embracing Linux is certainly them trying to make themselves more money, but it's not the "nefarious" Microsoft trying to take over the world with Windows anymore.

Paradox Interactive announce Europa Universalis V

I really, really hope that they focus on the engine (multi-core / multi-threaded) and late game performance. So many Paradox games run fine when starting out, but just fall over towards the late game. If it's not at least optimized (read: use and abuse) for 4-8 cores they're doing something wrong IMHO.

Native Linux would be nice as well.

Fedora Linux 42 is out now with KDE Plasma Desktop promoted and x86 programs on ARM

Fedora has a built-in Steam repo. You just need to enable it. Why would you use the flatpack? Due to flatpack adding a "obfuscation" / "security" layer they will have wierd issues when really needing to talk to your hardware. Sure, for wierd 3rd party programs it's one thing, but I wouldn't use them for something as driver dependent as Steam with Proton and the games. Same for NVIDIA drivers. Just enable the RPM fusion repo that's included with the install and just install the driver.

note: that's for GNOME. KDE should have similar or just edit /etc/yum/repos.d/rpmfusion-nonfree-nvidia-driver.repo and rpmfusion-nonfree-steam.repo and change "enabled=0" to "enabled=1"
