More Updates From Aspyr Media On Linux & Mac Progress For Civilization Beyond Earth

I'm going to hold off purchasing this game since it will probably be like Civ 5 in that it kinda needs the expansion packs to be really good. Though technically I probably shouldn't buy this game (even though I'll most likely still get it) since it will ruin all my productivity which would be bad since I'm in college.

Also glad to have ya back Liam!

I loved the RCT games... So I would love to see this in the future.

Indie Developer Threatens Gabe Newell, Game Removed From Steam

I hope they can get the game back on steam now that Mike got the boot (though I doubt it will). It's bad enough that he made a death threat on the internet, but he ruined it for everyone else on the team which to me is the worst part about all of this.

DG2: Defense Grid 2 Released For Linux

The price seems really steep for a TD game. Though I've heard that Defence Grid is one of the best TD games out there. Sadly college is expensive and I don't have the money to try this out... Fall and winter are coming up though so it may go on a sale and if it does I may grab it.

This is a pretty fun game I recommend it... Also has some humorous moments if you read their dialogs as they talk to each other.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Linux Beta Due Soon! (UPDATED)

After playing this for a few hours I can say that online works good, and that the game itself runs amazingly well even on high settings and 1080p. There are some issues with the mouse not showing up when the server ad window comes up but you can press enter to get past it.

CS:GO is the only reason I kept my Windows 7 partition... It has since been removed.

Thanks for shedding some light on this... I grew up playing old-school arena shooters and this looks awesome. Now I just have to hope there is a strong community to come with this as I've seen a few devs create games like this only to die out.

Techland Shoot Down Any Hope Of Hellraid & Dying Light On Linux

I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with things like Linux sales on the bigger AAA titles (civ5, xcom, etc.) because if you look at it it probably shows very low numbers. Though I would say not because the Linux community is small (though it is) but also that many users already owned the recently ported games from their old windows day or because they still use windows for gaming (which I think we should move away from). Just speculation on my part but if a developer looked at the sales figures for the recent Linux ports of the AAA games then it would look bad if they took those numbers at face value.

Regardless... Getting more engines to support Linux is always a good thing for the future unless the people using said engines never utilize said support.

Skullgirls Developers Detail What's Going On With The Linux Port
17 Sep 2014 at 12:43 am UTC

I'm glad to see a dev come here to explain everything so thanks for shedding some CLEAR light on the issue... Was it wrong to not mention the Linux port was by a volunteer/s sure, but like he said what's done is done.

Also got to apologize for my misguided previous post as I didn't know the already funded indigogo campaign page stays up after funding so I didn't know there were stretch goals, but I read through it and I see where the other 650k went. So again sorry.

I think the devs have learned there lesson on being quiet and not being specific even on smaller details, and I don't think they will make a similar mistake like this again... At the end of the day that's all I can ask for. Though next time you may want to try and handle porting to other OS's in house if possible (if you make another game that is).

Starbound Could Be Open Source In Future
16 Sep 2014 at 6:16 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestThe thing you need to understand is that open source does NOT equal free of cost, It means liberty not price. Open source software is software that respects the users rights and is software I will gladly pay for. Also there is user privacy to consider. Closed source software is untrustworthy software. There are many proven ways to make decent money from open source (Freedom) software such as the humble bundle business model. As far as someone else giving the software free of cost or selling it that should be considered second hand distribution. The developer has already made their money on the first sale. Someone who gets the first game free of cost may like the game and buy the next game. MYTH BUSTED
Sadly the image of opensource software is seen by many people (not all) as free software and many people will treat opensource as free software. Sure many people will gladly pay to support the developer/s even if paying is optional (given that you like said software), but there are many more people who will just want to get it for free. I hope I'm wrong on that but to me that's the way it seems.
