Last time I read an interview from a developer who saw about a year ago valve's vr prototype at their offices, he was saying that it was very expensive and also ver advanced. He said that achieved to fake the brain, cos have 0 latency and a lot of resolution and fps (if I find the interview I will post link). So here's my thouhgs.
Scenario 1: They keep his prototype just for developers, so they are attracted to develop for VR (the original plan)
Scenario 2: They pretend to sell a prototype for the market, so they have made a cheaper version of his device (who knows, technollogy gets cheaper over time, and maybe they found ways to make a cheaper version.
Scenario 3: They pretend to sell his current high cost device for the market, because they have realized that if people buys Nvidia titan z cards for 3,000$, maybe they can sell this for some gamers...then they can cheapen the thing later. <- I would like this one. I dont want another occulus rift. If they are going to go, use all the horsepower!!!!
Link to an interview:
I have not found exactly the one who I wanted, but it was mostly like this one.

The last year was outrageous for linux gaming. It demonstrated a change in the direction of the fate of gaming in linux. This web demonstrates it well. You have passed from posting a 1 or 2 games, to post several games per week.
In my opinion which has changed the fate of gaming on the linux OS, has been valve and what i call the 'favourite game' factor.
Previously (before 2013), if one wanted to move to linux, was not able to do it, since its 'favourite game' was only on windows. But then, some people's 'favourite's game' were launched on linux, and some of us were able to move.
For example, in my case it was Left 4 Dead 2. Before it was ported I simply could not move from windows, and I had nothing to negotiate with.
I asked companies to port games to linux, and they knew they didnt have to, because I could not escape from windows.
Once it was ported, I could. I mean, I do not have all my games in linux, but my favourite games is on it. Since my favourite game is, I can move to linux, and stay so, and then I could say to developers: 'Im playing on linux right now and I could play only Left 4 Dead only for years . Want me to play your game too? Release it for linux or I wont buy'.
And this was a big difference.
The favourite game factor is what had changed the situation.
Once other people have their favourite games ported, they will move too, and once there is a lot of people with this OS, most companies will have to port their games too, or they wont sell.

Fuck yeah. After what happened to insurgency, and the official lack of support of witcher 3 for linux at launch moment as has been stated when they have unveiled the official requeriments (well, at least to me, I know you also knew from before, but the official requeriments were the official word to me), finally this is great news of having a very good game to us. This game is AAA to me guys. Its fine action if you want to fight with swords in first person. No other game matches chivalry in his field.
Very good day.

Outcast, A Real Classic Has Been Revamped, And Linux Is Planned

Quoting: DrMcCoyAs always Dr MCoy, a good technicall explanation illustrated with an easy to understand analogy saves the day. Now we can kick some klingon asses.Quoting: oldrocker99As I recall, one thing unusual about the game was that it used OpenGL, rather than DirectX.You recall wrong.
Outcast [External Link] is one of those famous "voxel" games, like Blade Runner [External Link]. Contrary to modern games, it doesn't use vertices and faces as its basic geometry, but voxels [External Link], basically 3d pixels.
Think legos. Each 1x1 block (or 1x1 part of a bigger block) would be 1 voxel. They're each a single color. And a lot of them create a figure, like those big figure in Legoland [External Link].
As such, the renderer in Outcast was completely software-based. It did not use OpenGL or DirectX or any other API for hardware-based rendering (because those all depend on vertices and faces).
