Looks Like Nvidia Driver 358.66 Will Add Some Form Of Vulkan Support

The way I see it:
Main advantage of Vulkan towards Linux gaming will shift into gear when devs actually see it comparing to dx12. Even if they are equal in performance and features then the winner would be Vulkan, as the devs would use the same code for porting the game for windows/linux/mac, whichever their original OS of choice might be... and it would run at basically the same performance on all of them. No need to fuzz about optimizing or porting OpenGL.
This could really open up the PC market... by PC I mean Linux/Windows/MAC as they all are PCs (Personal Computer) in the end.

Quoting: GuestGreat performance so far. Very nicely detailed! Reached the ouija board room and couldn't figure out what to do, though. That room is a halloween competition addon room. Restart and head upstairs to start the story. ;)
Quoting: coesetaBest horror game on Linux so far imo.Completely agree with you!

Great game!
Streamed it a few days back, here are the highlights/downlights of it:
View video on youtube.com
Too bad that the game is not yet finished. You can only complete about 4 chapters out of 6 as of now.
Performance is great and lets hope they manage to finish this soon. :)

Sounds like something in the lines of Vanishing of Ethan Carter (interactive tale).
Will see how it goes - a very possible buy for me as I'm always up for a good story. :)

The Latest Steam Hardware Survey Shows Very Little Difference
5 Oct 2015 at 7:12 am UTC
One of the reasons, as I see it, for the linux number being so low, is the fact that I have NEVER encountered the survey on a linux desktop - so it's kind of a myth for me. On the other hand, multiple times per year I have received the survey prompt on Windows... strangley enough, right after booting from my linux partition.
So a conincidence or a conspiracy theory - don't know, but it is strange non-theless.

Quoting: minjHere's a conspiracy theory for you: Valve are keeping the numbers down to artificially increase the effect of launching Steam machines. Alright, alright, that's probably just wishful thinking.I would actually +1 on that.

Aspyr Media Are Teasing A New Game, They Promise Many Penguin Smiles

Maybe 2-5 years is even too lightly put, given how MS has grasped the PC gaming market, but we just have to hope that they do some mistakes and we get more attention that way.
Currently what we have is Feral, Aspyre and a whole bunch of Indie devs. They are the only awesome people bringing us candy if I'm not mistaken.
And it has been proven over and over again that AMD HW is crap when it comes to Linux gaming. It hurts to say that cause I used to be a complete AMD fanatic with its dragon platforms and all... but when Linux hit me, AMD just didn't cut the cake. Intel/nVidia is just the way to go... for now at least. Though I'm hugely grateful for AMD for releasing their Mantle for Vulkan API dev.

Quoting: subDo you realize we're still some kind of second-class customers? And we shall remain second-class customers for the next 2-5 years imho. Nothing is going to change until Vulkan and SpirV are released, accepted, worked upon, implemented, optimized and then... IF there is a bigger bump in Linux market share due to more and more good games coming out on the platform, we shall be receiving some more polished attention.

Quoting: keikiCorrect me if I'm wrong, but the way I understood it, was that another sweet feature, which will speed things up, is that Vulkan allows debug layers to be switched off by devs on their final product for customers. Meaning that the extra resources and time it takes to render something and show it, decreases dramatically as IMO currently OpenGL always has debuggers enabled.Quoting: stssIsn't that were game engines jump in to simplify things? So only developing the engine may get more complicated.Quoting: ZeloxCan someone explain to me if vulkun are going to aim for gpu's aswell. Like nvidia?Vulkan is a complete graphics API. It's not an addition on top of openGL or anything.
Giving us nvidia users a better experince on linux?
Or is it only cpu's. I haven seen the clip, I will.
As far as I know the relationship between vulkan, programs, and your GPU/CPU is the same as openGL and directX, just that the way it accomplishes the same things is different. It's supposed to give developers more manual control over the gpu, meaning programming for vulkan is supposed to be more difficult, but can offer much better performance
