Vulkan support for Dota 2 to come next week

Quoting: KristianIt might also kill Vulkan. Without Apple Vulkan only brings older Windows versions, Linux and Android. Older Windows versions is a shrinking market and Android is irrelevant for graphically intensive, AAA games. I am afraid that without Apple, Vulkan adoption will not be able to drive Linux gaming.
On the contrary, it might just kill Apple. Vulkan and DirectX 12 APIs are so close that graphics will be practically a cinch to port to Linux, but not Metal. Pretty much all AAA games are made for Windows and therefore will be much easier to port to Linux than Mac making return on investment possibly much higher on Linux even if the numbers are lower. This could make it far less likely to get Mac ports of games.

Feral Interactive are teasing yet another Linux & Mac port on their radar

Quoting: tkoniczFolks, this one is easy. These are war drums, obviously.
Haha, actually Wikipedia says something quite the opposite concerning this drum.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djembe [External Link]

Quoting: wikipediaAccording to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. In the Bambara language, "djé" is the verb for "gather" and "bé" translates as "peace."
So it has more to do with "Gathering" or perhaps "Rallying" together in a peaceful manner.

Quoting: toniMan, looks awesome but is't me or it's a bit laggy?
No it's not just you, it looks laggy to me too.
It could be the recording too. I played this on a fairly low spec laptop about two years ago and it ran great. I can't imagine it'll need too beefy of a setup to run smoothly under Linux.

The Atomic Game Engine is now open source and on github

That's funny, I literally looked at this engine two days ago for the first time and it had a price on it, haha! I think I was looking for a tutorial on how to use Urho3D which is what this one is based off of.

This engine looks quite polished. I'm building it now and going to check it out today.

Thanks for sharing the announcement! :)

GOL Asks: What have you been playing recently?
16 Mar 2016 at 2:14 pm UTC

I'm finishing up Shadow of Mordor and it's DLC's, Shadow Warrior in hard mode via New Game+, Time Clickers, and playing Borderlands 2 again on the weekends with my friend who hadn't played it yet.

Developer of Starsector fighting stolen artwork from Generic Space Shooter
14 Mar 2016 at 9:24 pm UTC

Quoting: scaineWell, it's possible the dev did pay for them, but the "freelance artists" on upwork stole the work. Original dev should reluctantly, but swiftly comply with the take-down in that case. The art itself looks like it's well documented work by Alex Mosolov on his devblog/website.
Agreed.

I was doing a project for a client about a year ago and the client had initially outsourced the game to another dev shop. Turns out that this dev shop had ripped off almost all of the UI artwork from a very high profile game. Fortunately, the client's son was playing the other game and the client noticed the artwork was the same as his game. Thus, we changed out all of the UI artwork before releasing the game, including the artwork that we weren't sure whether it was from another game or not. We just assumed all of the UI was ripped off just to be safe.

Moral of the story, it may not be the owner of "Generic Space Shooter"'s fault, but he should definitely get an update with their own original artwork soon!

Unity Editor Updated For Linux, Now Much More Up To Date
20 Nov 2015 at 8:36 pm UTC

Quoting: EikeI downloaded the deb twice and both times got an archive error. Anyone tried it?
Unfortunately it seems that the download times out after a few seconds.

Levi aka Tak said, "Sorry, there appears to be an issue with our CDN - we're working on it, and I'll post here when it's fixed."

Edit: It looks like they've moved the files now so your download should work if you use the new links available in their forum post: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/unity-on-linux-release-notes-and-known-issues.350256/ [External Link]

Steam Machines, Steam Link & Steam Controller Officially Released & SteamOS Sale

I'm in the same camp of being a tad disappointed/underwhelmed. But, it is interesting to try and figure out what Valve's game plan is.

Valve tends to play the long game with their products unlike many other companies do. So, maybe they want to roll it out gradually to more and more users over time to ensure SteamOS's stability.

Maybe they're testing the waters to see how many people bite even with very little marketing.

Maybe there's already been a big enough response that they don't need much marketing.

I'm really not sure, but would be interested to know why.

New Linux Gaming Survey For October
3 Oct 2015 at 3:42 pm UTC

Thanks for the new survey.

The most important factor for me (and probably many others) would be ratings and reviews, which aren't listed.

Thanks! :)
