Porting Civilization: Beyond Earth, Dev Update 6 From Aspyr Media (UPDATED)

I really appreciate them being so open and giving people the heads up about GPU support and a later release.

While they probably have good reasons, I wish the Metro Redux devs would be at least a tiny bit open with how it's coming as I'm starting to wonder if they will ever release it on Linux. I don't think we've heard a peep from them since it was on Pre-Sale.

GOG & Steam Both Hit Milestones For Linux Games

It's amazing how fast the catalogs are growing.

For the last week I've been playing a few Hidden Object games that I picked up in the sale. It's been a good a break from Borderlands and Dead Island as I've always been an Adventure game lover ever since Myst, but I will probably get back to playing Dead Island this week.

Congrats on the new job Liam!

Happy Gaming,
Nathan

The Steam Sales Are On

Quoting: flesk
Quoting: natewardawgI also picked up Chuck's Challenge 3D which looks fun for 75% off too at $0.74, but I'm not sure how good it is yet.
I've played that a lot and I think it's great. The Linux version used to have a lot of bugs but they have all been ironed out as far as I can tell. Hamish wrote an article about it when it launched on Desura a while back.
Thanks flesk, I'll definitely be checking it out soon then :)

If you're broke like me BattleBlock Theater is 90% off at $1.49, has "Overwhelmingly Positive" and a meta score of 85. I also picked up Chuck's Challenge 3D which looks fun for 75% off too at $0.74, but I'm not sure how good it is yet.

Both have trading cards, full controller support and achievements if any of those are important to you. Chuck's Challenge doesn't list Steam Cloud support, however.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Released On Steam For Linux

I've found the user ratings to be pretty useful myself as long as you remember the target audience of the game. For instance, if you hate Hidden Object games a rating of Overwhelmingly Positive probably means the game will not be very fun for you, but if you love Hidden Object games, then Very Positive or higher probably means you'll really like the game.

Time To Guess What Feral Interactive Are Working On, New Teaser
22 Nov 2014 at 4:05 pm UTC

I'm convinced that the game is a Batman game after reading through this whole thread and diving into the links people have provided.

As far as 64 bit goes, the first Linux distro I ever used was Suse 8 64 bit back in 2005 on a custom built PC. Everything worked great except there were no drivers packaged for the GPU... no shock there. :)

Valve Plans A Big Steam Machine Presence At GDC 2015

I'm pretty excited about Steam Machines, but not because I'm going to buy one. I'm excited because this is hopefully what a huge number of people will be buying, which will bring more developers and games to Linux.

What I will be buying, unless there are bad reviews overall, is the Steam Controller.

Kyle Pittman From Minor Key Games Talks About Low Linux Sales, And More
16 Nov 2014 at 2:58 pm UTC Likes: 5

I don't think his problem is Linux sales, his problem is sales in general. Linux user base is 1% of Steam, yet he sold about 600 copies across all platforms in the first week. The game has been out for 6 weeks. If he had 600 sales each week he would have 3600 sales total (edit: I missed the 846 total in his article). But, we all know that sales drop off dramatically after a few weeks, so his sales are probably more like 2500. Multiply that by 1% and he should have had 25 sales on Linux. But, he had 50 sales. That means his Linux user base bought his game twice as much as he should have projected.

Also, his sales are probably low because his price is too high. I'm not talking as a Linux gamer here, I'm talking as a gamer in general. His game probably takes less than 5 hours to complete, which means you're paying more than $2 per hour of gameplay, whereas you can find other games where you're paying about $0.25 per hour.

Aspyr Media Plans More Linux Games In The Next 6 Months UPDATED
29 Oct 2014 at 4:09 pm UTC

I think their super secret project may be Metal Gear V. It's always been a console game and all of a sudden is being made for PC on Steam. If it's on SteamOS, then it's still being made for a console. Regardless, I sure am interested to find out what their super secret project actually is! :)

Sid Meier Classics Released on Steam

I think it's perfectly fine as long as the game works properly. I don't even mind things in the near future like eON as long as the game runs well. Going forward though, since pretty much every engine supports Linux native builds, I'd like to see native ports. IE. 3-4 years from now a modern Wine wrapped game will be unacceptable.
