Valve COO on Epic's Tim Sweeney "you mad bro?" when launching the Epic Store

Quoting: Mal
Quoting: WORMSweeney is correct. Valve's cut was (and is, to a slightly lesser extent) quite greedy
Quite the opposite actually. Madbro literally proved to the world that 30% is the right cut. He has shown with his own very feats that it is not possible to offer a better service than Steam with a lower cut.
Ehhh, Sweeney just proved that he can't or won't do it. That doesn't make it impossible, since my impression is that he is neither competent nor motivated. In theory, somebody with competence and motivation (and a stack of money) could offer a good service with a lower cut. It just ain't gonna be Sweeney.

Sea of Thieves gets Easy Anti-Cheat - thankfully enabled for Steam Deck / Linux

"keep in sync with cheat developers"? I'm imagining them going to the cheat developers and saying "So, we're going to be releasing EAC for the game, but we wanted to check how that works with you guys' schedule". I mean, I suppose it is a game about pirates . . .

Seems like this could be a good one. I'm particularly pleased about
INDIVIDUALISTIC MACHINES - Your machine empires are no longer limited to gestalt consciousness and can have individual personalities and more diverse stories and origins. Further customize your empire with 3 new Machine Ascension Paths.
The idea that robots had to be a gestalt consciousness never made much sense to me. Or probably to R. Daneel Olivaw, among others.

It looks less like someone buying companies and more like a deal between two sports teams--"And you get so-and-so, but I get a first round draft pick . . ."

Quoting: Purple Library GuyDash it! I thought "Whoa, a game about space monks!" but no, the star system is just called Trappist. Major letdown.
The system [External Link] is named from the survey [External Link], Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST), which is named after the traditional beer [External Link] from the monks [External Link].

Looks pretty interesting from a quick glance at the video, I'll have to check it out when I get time.
It does look interesting, actually.
And that background is pretty cool, and it means the game's locale is based on a real star system, which is pretty neat. So yes, I'll have to have a look at some point.

Quoting: Linux_RocksI've got this on my wishlist. I'm definitely gonna pick it up on sale at some point.

We've come a long way since this:
I had a racing game on my TRS-80. It was a top-down view and the car was a little rectangular blob of white.

They're making a library system. Our library's previous system came from a company called Triple-i, or III or something.

Steam Deck had a strong end to 2023 and a great start for 2024

Must be selling pretty well . . . I mean, a Steam Deck costs less than ten times the price of an AAA game, and as Liam notes, the numbers on the top selling games are pretty ridiculous.
