Quoting: Kimyriellewhere studios can't ignore the Deck (and thus Linux) anymore
They don't ignore Deck but clearly ignore Linux unfortunately. (see Forspoken)
Which just goes to show how much difference buzz and perceived momentum make, because far as I can tell in pure numbers there's still more desktop Linux gamers so far.

When I saw the headline I was wondering if that was good news because production was robust, or bad news because people weren't ordering enough in Asia to sell out the supply. But it sounds like demand is significant, or at least that's what Komodo says, so cheers!

Quoting: Craggles086If developers no longer have to target Linux native on the Steam store, then do they put the effort in for Linux Native just on GOG?
Huh? I feel like there's at least one and probably two or three premises I'm not getting here.

--Developers never had to target Linux native on the Steam store (or GOG), so there isn't really a "no longer". That's the sadness of tiny market share.

--Contrary to what many (including me) expected, the prevalence of effective (not-an) emulators for non-Linux-native games on Steam does not seem to have led to a reduction in Linux native releases on Steam. Liam just noted that there was actually an increase this year. Perhaps it's because of the buzz for Steam Decks, since everyone knows although they use Proton they're still natively a Linux device and that seems to have driven some Linux interest. So, to the extent there was ever a motivation for targeting Linux native on Steam, it seems there still is.

--Most people using GOG on Linux are I think relatively sophisticated users; I'd bet most of them are able to use emulation software even though GOG doesn't make it easy like Steam does. They just use Lutris or Bottles or whatever. So, any loss of need to release on Linux, caused by Wine, DXVK, Proton, ScummVM etc etc would also apply to GOG even though less obviously; the advance of the technology applies everywhere, not just to Steam.

So yeah: Linux native up on Steam, down on GOG. I don't think you can blame GOG's decrease on Steam.

I like the idea of these games, but I really suck at actually playing them. I end up wandering around the few areas I have access to, continuing to miss what the hell stuff I have to find and do to get anywhere interesting.

Quoting: GroganWhy would anybody pay that much for a game of that nature? It doesn't even look very nice. I mean seriously... in this day and age, $35 USD for that?
However it looks, the game has a lot of devoted fans and has seen a lot of praise. Mostly about the gameplay, not the graphics. So I don't think the price is necessarily out of line, even though I myself am too cheap to pay it.

Meanwhile, over in Universe B [External Link], Blue Library Guy is saying the same thing about the blue case.
Just one reason why Universe A is clearly better.

Turn-based city-builder set on Mars, Farlanders has launched

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIt seems a whole lot like "Surviving Mars" only on a simple-graphics little square grid. I hope it has some gameplay that sets it apart.
It does. At least in the prologue tile placement plays a important role. Tiles come in all sort of combinations, so getting everything to be perfectly optimal is not that easy. There's no really guarantee that you'll like Farlanders if you liked Surviving Mars.

Terraformers might be bit closer, though it plays more like a boardgame and is maybe bit more closer to Terraforming Mars than Surviving Mars. Especially as vanilla Surviving Mars doesn't have terraforming.
I always thought they missed a trick not calling that one TerraforMars.
