Quoting: LinuxwarperThat would be a lot of trouble. Sure, Google no doubt do some custom stuff, but the further you diverge the more you have to maintain the thing yourself.Quoting: AnzaEspecially in that kind of scenario things are easier for Google if games are run on Linux.Define Linux in this context. Debian? Any of the major Linux distributions? Or Google's fork of Debian? And if it runs on Google's Stadia customized Debian, there is little to no guarantee the game will run on Linux. Google could also diverge on the path of Debian further to point that their Debian may become so different to vanilla Debian that porting games would be cumbersome.

Quoting: slaapliedjeNot much faster, on those blasted little non-keyboards cell phones have.Quoting: mao_dze_dunYeah I want a phone that's all cli.Quoting: Perkeleen_VittupääOne of the biggest challenges for seasoned Linux users is to place oneself in the shoes of a new comer that's also a Windows refugee. What is "simple, handy and easy" (*just a few commands on the terminal*) for us, might be a set of total deal breakers for a "normo" to start with :grin:Had a friend back in the day, who didn't even like GUI. He was convinced everybody had to just learn to use the terminal (and obviously hated Windows). I once asked him: "What about some secretary in an office?", "Yes!!!". And meant it. I think a lot of people in the Linux community do not realize that " just one command" in the terminal is already too much for most people. And honestly - you can't be mad at somebody for not wanting to go out of his way when he doesn't have to.
Anyway - cool tool :D
How faster would it be to be able to type 'call john_doe' instead of having to click contacts, scroll through a huge list, hopefully click on the right one and then press the call button?
sms john_doe "hey bro, what's up?"
or
echo "hey bro, what's up?" | sms john_doe

Quoting: nullzeroIt's clunky sounding, but I kind of like it. It says what it is. Nobody's going to ask "What's GamerOS?" because the answer obviously is, "It's an OS for Gamers." Truth in advertising. If it's for you, looking at the name will instantly say "This is a clunky name . . . but it might be something I should look into."Quoting: mao_dze_dunGamerOS (that name IS stupid)About the name, there is huge thread on discord about the dev asking feedback and suggestions for names, but and actually it's really difficult to find a good one. Most are taken by other gaming or semi-gaming related websites / products, or focus on a non-core feature of the OS.
No good one has been found yet (or at least when I looked at it 1-2 months ago)

Quoting: ExpalphalogThank you for this. Everybody kept raving at how amazing CKII was, so a few years ago, I picked it up on sale with all the expansions and bounced off of it hard. I didn't understand anything that was going on. I couldn't figure out how to do much, had no clue what half the icons meant,I bounced off, but oddly lightly. I started off and as a guy with a good deal of stuff about Medieval history and lifestyle under my belt, everything seemed pretty intuitive. I'd arranged a marriage, got some councillors, started improving my fief a little, and then there was some kind of revolt and . . . for the life of me I just could not figure out how to tell my troops how to go places or attack people. The mechanics for that just seemed completely opaque, I had no idea, and so the rebels just started picking off my troops in whatever sub-province they happened to be at the time and I thought, someday I'll go watch a play video or something and figure out how that works and start again. When I have a lot of time.

Quoting: aluminumgriffinNice, however I really wish they would keep mesa somewhat up to date without forcing one into a FrankenDebian, maybe start with yet another "distro sub-section" (akin to non-free) that is "gaming" with the note that it is a slight sacrifice of stability for the sake of more bleeding edge (would also be a good place to put things like fresh OBS).IMO Debian Stable is mostly for servers and stuff . . . things that are doing basic workloads and you want them to just keep doing it and never die. If you're going to be playing non-ancient games on a machine, it should probably be using at least Testing and maybe Unstable, which is still about as stable as most up-to-date distros.
(mesa in Debian/Stable is at 18.3.6 , the iris drivers (matters if you uses intel iGPU) became good quite a bit after that (in the 19.x series) - to make it all that much funnier debian stable ships with libdrm 2.4.97 (to build the 19.x mesa and later you need at least libdrm 2.4.100)
In Debian/Testing it is mesa 20.1.8 and libdrm 2.4.102 so it is a night-and-day difference in terms of performance you get in stable and testing)).
