Arma 3 Linux port update in testing, possible BattlEye support to come too

Quoting: GuestIn ARMA communication is the most important thing. And any group above 4 - 6 people regularly make use of those radio mods.
I've switched my entire communication to Discord. First mumble, then ts, then only discord. :)

Some clans I know have switched as well. No more paying for TS servers and no more client...

AMD has announced their 14nm FinFET Polaris GPU architecture

Quoting: SabunStill no ability to use Freesync on Linux, or record using VCE (or a multitude of other functionality really). Performance is the least of our woes. The slides once again showcase a lot of new hardware changes and purported functionality, which will only be usable on Linux if AMD allows the Linux driver that functionality. Otherwise it's no different than buying an older card.

Future buyers of AMD cards for Linux, please study before hand what is confirmed usable out of the specific card you want to buy and what is not on Linux at the time of buying. Do not blame Linux if it does not work, it is not Linux's fault.
I wouldn't blame Linux. If there are really a few games I couldn't play although I should be able to, I'll boot up Windows and be fine with it :)

Quoting: minjOK, cool... but will it run OpenGL/Vulkan on OSS drivers with equivalent performance? :P
Considering the only real competitor doesn't even have open source drivers for the desktop... ya, I'll go with AMD again. I'm really excited for this :)

Looks Like Mad Max Won't Come To SteamOS & Linux

Sorry, but not wanting to start a Witchhunt but stating the "not witch"es name is a bit... ironic

StarBreak, A Co-op Roguelike MMO Action Platformer Coming To Linux
16 Nov 2015 at 8:11 pm UTC

Quoting: stssGames have been getting labelled with MMO for years now as long as they have items or stats that carry over from server to server. TF2 is even considered an mmo to some.
No idea how that interpretation spread though.

I suppose the logic is that the context in which "massively" applies is a persistent world, and maybe some people consider connecting players by stats across many servers as constituting a persistent world? I don't know.

Anyways, the game looks interesting.
Don't care how long it has been done. It's dumb and I will not stop saying that. Just because something wrong has been done for years doesn't make it right miraculously.

Without massively it can't be a massively-anything. That's just a contradiction and I hate it when terms get watered up like that.

Next thing we call egoshooters real time strategy games, because you know, you have to decide on a strategy in realtime.

Are we talking MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER here or is it just another Coop game? I don't see 8-32 players as "massively"... no I didn't read the background, since I can't right now. It's just that Steam has more and more "MMO(RP)Gs" that are just normal multiplayer games without any massive scale.

Legends Of Eisenwald Linux Port Put On Hold, Developers Asking For Help To Port It
12 Nov 2015 at 7:40 pm UTC Likes: 4

Sorry, but if I was about planning a port, why would I start an engine with DX9?

As I see it: There was a kickstarter campaign and one certain goal was to deliver a Linux port. That goal was not met. Fine. So no Linux port. But it seems like they thought that somewhere down the line they would still like to do one.

Now, did they write the engine from scratch during/after the kickstarter? Because if so, this is just stupidity³.

Looks Like Nvidia Driver 358.66 Will Add Some Form Of Vulkan Support
4 Nov 2015 at 5:44 pm UTC

I see Vulkan as a game-changer as soon as it becomes available for the PS4 and only if the performance there is comparable or even better than the low-level api sony provides.

Also, stop comparing DX12 with Vulkan. Vulkan is only graphics, while DX is a lot more!

Albion Online MMORPG Closed Beta Date Announced

If you are not into sandboxes and pvp, then you are simply not the target audience. Easy as that. In the early days of mmorpgs, there were very few examples of instanced dungeons and stuff like that.

It was Everquest and later World of Warcraft that brought in that kind of stuff. And with the success of WoW everybody thought that that's the way mmorpgs should be.

Mäh... while I had a lot of fun in WoW and other themeparks I personally prefer Sandboxes much, much more.

In reality Albion Online is more or less an Ultima Online successor. If you're not into that type of game, so be it, move on, but don't try to make it maggoty for the rest of us.

I've been looking forward to a game like this, since I heard of Mortal Online. I love relentless PVP and the thrill of being hunted, the thrill of not being save.

Actually Albion has safe-zones, but in order to see the world, maximize your profits and visit some dungeons you have to move outside of these.

Again: If that is not what you like: move on!
