ROG Xbox Ally Handhelds announced, the first real Steam Deck competition

unfortunatelly brands like "xbox" and "windows" will help this sell a lot, i mean, if a lot of people purchased playstation portal, despite the steam deck doing everything it does + a lot more, why wouldnt an xbox portable sell a lot?
and i know xbox is struggling to sell compared to playstation, but it still sell a lot compared to the steam deck and the value proposition of an portable is much bigger than the home console.

a lot of people are against exclusives, now thanks to our lack of marketshare we have some games that on linux are exclusive to some devices, but on all other platforms arent exclusives...

and its not because vave paid then to have an exclusivity deal, but due to an issue on our ecosystem

Holyfuck!
when i saw an new device announced on the thumbnail, i was already happy thinking: ok, steam OS device right ?
HELL! even better! another linux device, companies wont be relying on SteamOS only!

the fact that they are begting on linux, not just on a valve branded one is quite promissing, i would say, the success of this device is more important than the success of steam deck or the other steamOS device that i forgot the name, this can prevent another android scenario!

now dont get me wrong, i will still purchase games mostly on steam and gog as a second option, and if/when i can afford, purchase an steamdeck instead, but i'm really excited now!

not to mention, another big thing: trackpads! i hope those become default and the industry start develop more games specifically targeting this form of input, we need inovation in gameplay , not just graphics, and new types of controler is one are where we can start this inovation, imagine if we didnt had thumbsticks to this day!

looking at the device , it dont seem to be as confortable as the steam deck (i mean the position of some things seems awkward to use)
and this d-pad looks REALLY BAD, not to mention the plastic looks cheap, hopefully im wrong.
[edit]
never mind its a prototype, forget everything i said

End of 10 is a campaign to move people over to Linux with Windows 10 support ending

that sound like a great campaing, but it most likely will fail, we had install parties for years and the marketshare havent moved too much.
i know its different now with proton and etc but i dont think that will be enough, one of the biggest issue, i saw a lot of people try linux and give up in the past, its not just installing, instaling is just the first step we need to ensure that they will stay on linux, we have to provide helpdesk until people learn how to take care of thenselves to not need helpdesk anymore and to teach others as well, that is the biggest challenge, otherwise we will just make a lot of people hate linux.

even if we dont manage to convert people to linux, at least we have to make sure they are wiling to give a second chance for it in the future, when things improve and the issues they had that made then give up were probabaly already adressed .

Interesting not to see fedora on there ... this is apparently what comes from protondb:

https://boilingsteam.com/linux-distros-in-march-2025-a-new-challenger-emerges/ [External Link]

which is mostly similar, but with the notable difference of fedora?
speaking of this site, i was reading the article :
https://boilingsteam.com/the-steam-deck-is-back-in-stock-in-japan/ [External Link]

and the end of the article:

These are machines you are supposed to play with, but the level of incompetence of the staff is abysmal. The ROG Ally X had no games that you could run - it was basically a useless brick in demonstration. The Steam Deck had at least several games playable, but it was turned off (or in sleep mode) and did not react until you pressed the power button. I doubt that most visitors would know how to operate it if it was their first time.

looks like valve and the other companies need to step up their game, puting an product at an store is not enough, sure many people know what windows is and what it does, but they cant know how powerfull an device gonna be to play an game with an good performance just looking at specs and the desktop enviroment that is awful to navigate on this device.

and steam deck being in sleep mode, sigh.
