Quoting: FisterfrankAm I missing something or are we going backwards? Hasn’t the point & focus been to speed up load & boot times? Not make it 3 times longer.

you know nothing about workflow:

Quoting: kuhpunktI mean it's good that they give people the freedom to do what they want, but I get the impression that some people just want to do it for the sake of it - and not because they actually want to watch a 30 second boot video every time. There's no benefit to it.

i think its the same as puting your favorite song as an alarm clock.
it looks like an good idea until you do it.
so yes, people wanted longer boot times, they probably will regreat it... but hey! all they have to do is not to chose this option once they realize its a bad idea.

the main issue is that a lot of other people will start making longer boot videos and get their effort wasted.

i found the number.
they estimated that the cheating industry moves at least 100 millions per year.
just an reminder, that was 5 years ago, i think its safe to assume this growth was proportional to the growth in the gaming market.
as for us, we arent 1% of the market, pc is 23% and we are 1% of those 23%.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI wish macOS wouldn't have a boot splash. Like I could maybe see why it's so slow to boot... It's funny, I actually prefer a text dump to make sure my services are starting, but definitely will set up debian with a splash for others. Since you can just hit escape, it solves the best of both worlds.

if an computer is capable of playbacking an video, its most likely will be able to boot.
if if fallback to text only, then things may have gone south, in any case you can always disable the boot screen on linux.
im not sure about mac

Decky Loader, get easy Steam Deck Plugins and make colours POP!

if increassing saturation make the default look, look boring...
then reduce it may make the default look better?

anyway, i was going to say that, this goes against the way developers/artists envisioned their product so im not a big fan, art belong to artists, everything else is fanart/fanfic, but when it comes to details like color accuracy, unless you are targeting an specific device like nintendo ds, you know that the colors will look diferent at the player monitor, and configurable colors were a thing since the air tv time before video games were a thing.

its so ironic to see people simulating CLI:

https://steamdeckrepo.com/post/EAelE/pip_boy_logo_transform
https://steamdeckrepo.com/post/ENw2Y/nier_automata

i mean, linux had CLI boot screens before it was cool, it was just... what we had, no boot screen, just cli to debug stuff. (and people saw it and think: oh, this is scary! i will admit that i still freak out a little when i see the cli during the boot because i know things may have gone south , its pretty much PTSD)
anyway, some of those are quite cool

https://steamdeckrepo.com/post/E1GLP/cyberpunk_2077_system_reboot
https://steamdeckrepo.com/post/n8aaE/metal_gear_solid

and i laughted at "whos that pokemon"
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/185cgjIrsULzFRDcVKS7i_kHv7PMoHkKu
despite the fact that i hate 4kids edits

and you know what? we know the year of linux came when people get excidted about an linux device to the point of customizing the bootscreen with tons of options, the OS vendor having to officially support that feature, and those screens proudly saying "steamOS" and not windows, implying those users arent dualbooting (not that they can customize windows that much anyway)

My current little wish-list for Steam Deck upgrades

" Paladins, for example, is still listed as Steam Deck Playable, despite the anti-cheat breaking it quite a long time ago. How are things like this not picked up? Trust in Deck Verified is essential."
i think they should direct their efforts to online gaming the last... or at least, reduce their efforts in q/a those until they got all major triple A and double A covered.
seriously, anti cheat can break stuff at any time, so they will have to keep their tests updated, wich will take away time from testing new games or lead us to a place like this, an game that you cant even open marked as playable or verified...

Facepunch put out a fresh statement on Rust for Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: 1xokI think an AC system that is not operating system agnostic is doomed to failure from the start. You can already do so much with image recognition that the cheat can also run on a smartphone that films the screen and controls the input via bluetooth. I wouldn't be surprised if there are already ready-made apps for this.

i dont think its that easy to do, but hey, the idea of simulating an bluetooth device is much smarther than the one of puting machines to press buttons literally

QuoteWhen we discontinued linux support in 2019, one of the core reasons was how the cheating community was exploiting the Linux platform.

They are trying to convince me that 0.1% of the userbase, by their own numbers and assuming that it would mean that all of Linux users are cheaters... Yeah... Right... wrecked the game so much that it attracted their attention to Linux cheating?

I'm... not... buying... it.

I would really like to know on what fact they based this assumption, if it's not just pure made up BS, because they can't say they won't support Linux, because they don't want to and because they hate the platform.

Seriously, it's more insulting than anything else.

I needed this new statement as much as a Facepunch!

the cheating industry move millions of dollars each year, maybe even billions, valve said it thenselves (steam devdays), i wouldnt be surprised if its more profitable to make an cheat software for an game than port the game to linux/make it work with proton.

no one is saying that all linux users are cheatters, the issue is, cheaters are willing to do a lot to cheat, if they have to pay they will, if they have to install an software that is hard to install they will.
hell, i never used an cheat software, but the last time i cracked some software it was way harder than instaling an linux distro, if instaling cheat software is that hard, then i wont be surprised to see some people installing linux just to cheat, and that is the main issue here.
