Quoting: dubigrasuRecently I had it (the survey) three times in a single day.Surveys for me are a bit rare, I actually had one yesterday and the previous was more than a year ago I think but every time I get the survey, I get it on every machine I login that day, yesterday I got two surveys.
I didn't had any hardware changes (which is also likely to trigger it), just some various distros testing.

I would guess a big part of the flatpak is fedora, if I am not mistaken they push it more than other distros.

So it is clearly positive.
The best would have been helping the game developers do linux right.
The fragmentation problem is not that a linux executable is not compatible with every distro. This is a myth. The fact is a linux executable work in every gnu/linux.
The real fragmentation problem is that developers do not know what is really supported and what will be depraceted or very depended is specific environment. And I would not blame the developers, the information about linux is scattered.

Quoting: minidouI still don't understand what a user is supposed to make of "Steam Linux Runtime".Although I do agree that it is not as useful as it sounds to many people that unfortunately believe the distro fragmentation myth , (the obvious best would be the everything to just work with native runtime) but at least it is way-way better way than the runtime to be bundled with steam by default. It was an obvious blunder that steam is bundled with an 32bit ubuntu 12.04 runtime by default in the first place.
So it is clearly positive.

Quoting: JJNovaIf purchased on the Humble Store, is it a download or a steam code?steam code only. When there is drm-free download they say so. for example:

gives both drm-free download and steam.

if someone wants to gift it to a friend, how is ti done? The problem is that it shows as in library of the friend because of the free weekend. Uninstall does not remove from library.
edit: I think I found a nice workaround. It is also on humble bundle.

Yes I did not like this question right from when introduced. They should have been about the importance of wine usage and they do not do that right. The others questions are awesome.

The fact is that a proper executable will just work on linux using the host libraries no matter the version. If you do not use the host libraries and you are trying "to be safe" then it will stop working in the future because these libraries will be incompatible with new libraries.
So the real solution should be to give a proper way to developers to develop and test the games using API that we just know it will never break no matter what changes underneath in the future.

Quoting: tgurrwhile they run fine without the container solution.I completely agree. Meanwhile all the "compatibility issues" mentioned are completely distro-irelevant and are relevant with the evolution of linux and in some cases if you are just missing a library (which is also a really distro-irelevant thing). The whole distro-fragmentation thing has never been a real issue and the only problem with that is that it is misleading people.
It's funny how containers are said to be the cure to everything by adding yet another layer of complexity.

Quoting: NeverthelessMaybe limiting the scope of the executable software is not what Valve wants. Or did I understand you wrongly?Saying "this is the right way to do it" does not limit executable software. It changes nothing about what is executable or not, it only informs about the right way so they will have the best support.
