Even without Linux support, they list a continuous internet connection as a requirement so that is the final nail in the coffin. Waiting for Dirt Rally.

Valve set to replace Greenlight with Steam Direct

Do not forget about free (gratis) games, including Free and Open Source games. Sure they can use itch.io and other stores, but the potential audience is so much larger on Steam.

And that's what they mainly want from what I know - a larger community to get contributors from, and in the case of networked games have a self-sustaining player base. Paid DLC could also aid in further development for the game in question. All this can be done without Steam in theory, but it gets even more difficult without it. $5000 or even $1000 would be out of the question for many gratis games.

Well it was certainly a nice surprise to see SuperTuxKart in second place as best update of 2016. We do get positive feedback now and then but rarely comparing releases, at least in a positive direction. :)

The upcoming release this year (unless something drastic happens) should also be a good one, with various improvements including some for performance. Do note that they will mostly help lower-end hardware, and with higher-end graphics cards the improvements may not be noticeable. Also we just got an improved camera which should be smoother with lower and highly variable framerate.
Anyway this is GamingOnLinux and not SuperTuxKartOnLinux, so more details can be found on our blog, forums and we're active on IRC as well. Congratulations to all the winners. :)

Quoting: ajgpI already have far too many games on Linux to play than I have time for! My last non-linux purchase was Witcher 3 (and I havent yet played it!!), and other than that I havent bought a windows only game since 2014.

I am slowly playing my way through my steam library, and my MMO itch is sated by GW2 via WINE
GW2 has a lot worse performance in WINE for me, enough that I can't be bothered and swallow the Windows poison for my eyes.
I wish for a Guild Wars 3 with Vulkan, even if reusing most of the GW2 content.

Quoting: Beamboom... while we in Norway still only get the "coming soon" message on the controller page. :(
That's sad, was considering picking up one even though I'm not a controller guy. Let's hope they do well elsewhere, so chances of Valve expanding increases.

Still playing it with friends every other day. A release would considerably cut down the amount of reboots I have to do. However a program I'm using every week recently stopped working for me under Linux... sooo maybe not as much as I'd like.

Unless my friends want to play it multiplayer Hedgewars appears to be the better choice.

I'll try to have a look later, quite busy lately and I'm one of those sceptical of crowdfunding/preordering as I've been burnt in the past. Once bit twice shy and all that. But the screenshot intrigues me so I'll at least see what it's about once I have the time and mood for it.

Thanks for running GamingOnLinux, I think it's a rather decent community and I get to see if there's anything new that catches my interest, such as this article.
