Quoting: ValckHonest apologies for my apparent spate of negativity, but I just can't help it... are zombie games still a thing in 2020? Apparently some things just don't seem to die (badum-tish).

I'm seeing myself out, thank you ;)
You could say, the Zombie genre continues to...live again. It's an undying genre.

Stadia Pro gets 6 free games for September, with 3 leaving

Quoting: iiariStupid question from a non-Stadia user: Why do games "exit" Stadia? I mean, they're not running out of server space or anything. Is it that they don't want to pay rights? Wouldn't this be annoying to subscribers to really like a game and then, oops, it's gone!
Games don't exit Stadia, they're leaving Stadia Pro - so people who do not claim them during the time they're in Pro, have to buy them like everyone else does. Exactly the same as PS Plus on the PlayStation.

Quoting: dubigrasuWell, I'm saying they're maybe using DXVK because I see a DXVK cache in my Stadia data files.
This is from Metro 2033:
2033_auto_save
2033_l00_intro.player
2033_l01_hunter.player
2033_l02_exhibition.player
uEngine.dxvk-cache
user.cfg
Quite possibly, DXVK is after all a tool to translate into Vulkan which Stadia needs.

Quoting: randylI really liked Tower of Time and did not know they added a Linux port. When I first switched back to Linux as my main desktop a while back ToT didn't have one and didn't run well (or at all really) through Proton, which was really new at the time. I just reinstalled Tower of Time and added Dark Envoy to my follow and wishlists.
Tower of Time predates Proton by like a year, Tower of Time came to Linux in 2017, Proton was 2018.

The Darkside Detective: Season 2 gains a demo, now releasing in 2021

Quoting: hardpenguinThe Darkside Detective isn't a horror game at all though. It's a comedy point'and'click adventure.
But it is an adventure with a narrative based on the supernatural, which is part of what they said they're totally looking for.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleIt's Linux. Stadia is all native Linux ports.
Correct. This keeps coming up. Porter Ryan "Icculus" Gordon mentioned here [External Link] how close it is. As did Ethan Lee in this [External Link] post, quite clearly, it's just using Linux builds that are ridiculously close to desktop Linux.

Quoting: GuppyAnyway you look at it if stadia is a success it's a net win for Linux gaming.
pretty much how I see it. It's an option that (country supported/net good enough), is supported on Linux and since it's using Linux + Vulkan as a base, developers need to be familiar with tooling for it and game engines need to improve for it too.

Quoting: shawnsterpMy guess is that other communities are just as toxic
No need to guess, go look in the comments on any major PC gaming website for all sorts of subjects - they're all pretty terrible. We're somewhat unique, as we cover a niche and have a much lower volume of comments. However, like all communities, we also have some people with very polarizing ideas and some people feel the need to comment constantly on things they don't like. In short: all communities have weird people in them.

People know my stance on things though and the wider stance of GOL as a website: support developers, be kind to people, fuck racism and sexism.

Quoting: PatolaNo, that's a false dilemma. And I would suggest not to go this way on this thread, this has nothing whatsoever to do with racism and the current topic is controversial enough.
Did you even read the article and the linked source that talks about past issues? Zaimont thought it was funny to make a racist joke about "I can't breathe". If you don't understand that, and why it's truly shit to joke about it then you must live in a really nice bubble. So yes, Racism does come into it. Stop defending a clear creep and terrible person. You can't just write everything off like this as some form of cancel culture or whatever idiotic term people come up with next to defend terrible people.
