Fedora Asahi Remix 41 brings AAA gaming to Apple Silicon with Linux

Quoting: StellaIn my opinion, Apple can never be be the future of gaming thanks to its 'walled garden' approach and because they change CPU architecture about as often as I change clothes. Many games that used to work don't any more because they were built for Intel Macs, and before that, PowerPC
A walled garden is nothing to do with it, Steam supports Mac after all. Their lower user share is the biggest part of it, same reason as Linux.

As for changing CPU architecture, they moved to Intel starting in 2006, that's around 18 years ago. That's a long time.

Quoting: da_habakukim not sure how this will bring AAA gaming to linux on arm. most games are x86 only - what cpu translation is used to achieve this goal? opengl & vulkan is the easier part of the puzzle i think.... maybe im missing something?
It uses a mixture of things like FEX [External Link] to run the games on Arm. So yeah, you're missing plenty :)

SteamOS 3.6.21 Beta "Update of the Year" fixes security issues, plus Indiana Jones and the Great Circle rendering issues

Quoting: Spyker
Fixed a rendering issue with characters' eyes in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
I wonder if this fix comes from a Mesa update or just a Proton one because it appears on Desktop Linux as well (at least with AMD graphics).
It's literally linked in the article. It's a Mesa update.

Quoting: Liam Dawea seriously janky RPG called Arcanum
It wasn't that bad for the time. Near contemporaries like Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment were just as janky, if not in exactly the same way.
Oh yeah I get that, I just have fonder memories of playing it, wasn't really into Fallout games around the time. I didn't get into Fallout until Fallout 3 heh.

Steam Beta for Dec 11 brings new game update options plus a new downloader style

For some reason, Valve still won't just give us a "download all" button to then instantly queue everything up to begin downloading.
Steam is a significant chunk of global Internet traffic, and lots of users keep Steam running in the background. The reason for the staggered scheduled downloads is to prevent 100 million people all downloading at once the second a patch goes live. Perhaps they're concerned that if they put in a Download All function into Steam then people will automate that, and defeat the bandwidth smudging process?
I don't really see that as being a legit reason. The download all button would still be a manual process, of you hitting that button, so people leaving their PC on would still have them scheduled by Valve automatically. Right now you can do it just by dragging them all into the queue anyway, so it's just a matter of Valve saving people some time.

As for automation - people can just do that already I'm sure. A new client-side button wouldn't change that.

Steam Beta for Dec 11 brings new game update options plus a new downloader style

Quoting: ZetymWhile it's nice that they've separated the progress bar for download vs updating/installing files, but it's annoying that they removed the numbers for how much data needs to be processed by the update/install.

They also removed the ability to quickly navigate to the library page for the game currently being downloaded as you can't click the cover art for it as you could before, and still can with the games that are in queue, or already finished...
Oh yeah, I just noticed that, looks like a slight woops there. You can right click it for all sorts of options, but no option to go to the library page for it until it's finished now or your drag it out of the download.
