Be prepared to build from nothing as 'Kingdom Two Crowns' now has a Linux beta

Update: I spoke to them on Twitter [External Link], but I don't think they quite understood. Hopefully my replies will clear it up, otherwise no one can try the beta.

Be prepared to build from nothing as 'Kingdom Two Crowns' now has a Linux beta

Quoting: ironheadI absolutely adore "Kingdom classic", from graphics to sound and gameplay, everything felt quite perfect.

After opting in to the beta public-test steam still says that this is played via Proton.
Is there anything else I need to do to get to the Linux beta?
I've just looked it up, they forgot to add Linux content to store purchases (only on specific keys atm). I will contact them to let them know now.

Cats Fly Helicopters from Flippfly (Race The Sun) announced, some comments on Linux support

but we've supported it because we really appreciate how helpful and positive the Linux community has been with bug reports etc.
Proof that attitude can help garner game support in lieu of market share!
It's always interesting when this comes up, as it goes back to the "How to be a great advocate for a niche gaming platform" article Marc from Unity (ex feral dev) did.

The Rise of the Giant "free DLC" for Dead Cells is out and it's fantastic as expected

Quoting: Grabby> Note: Gamepad support, at least with the Steam Controller is still completely broken on Linux. I have to use SC Controller to get the game to detect it.

That's really not the experience I have. Both my Logitech F310 and my DualShock 4 work out-of-the-box and the game even shows the correct button symbols for each.
Those gamepads are handled differently to the Steam Controller and generally have wider support in most games. Steam Controller often needs specific stuff. In the case of Dead Cells, the Steam Overlay is broken for it which is the likely cause for the Steam Controller not working as it's probably not able to talk to Steam Input properly.

Risk of Rain 2 works very nicely on Linux thanks to Steam Play, it's also pretty crazy

Quoting: TheBardSteam Play is a wonderful thing but we still need two things:
  • Linux sales that count as Linux ones and not Windows

  • Official Linux support either natively or via Steam Play

It is known since the release of Proton that your game will count as a Linux sale if you play it with Linux.
Correct. To make this absolutely clear: Steam Play counts as a Linux sale.

When Steam Play was first announced, I got a clear message from Valve about that. See the bottom in this article for confirmation.

Quoting: Mohandevir@liamdawe You probably already did, even if it's not mentionned in this review, but have you been in touch with them about a futur Linux version? The original game is supported... Maybe?
Last I heard, it was basically a no as they have no Linux people on their team. From what I remember, I think the original only really came to Linux to get into a Humble Indie Bundle.

2D team-based building and raiding game 'Scrunk' leaving Early Access and going free this month

Quoting: EhvisThe big problem with this game was that it was completely unusable on your own. No way to even practice since you couldn't start anything without a second team. So no reason to hang out on the server for long than to check if anyone was there. Which meant that the chances that you actually found anyone playing were almost zero.

Indie devs should realise that they can't magically get enough players in their game. They should have something entertaining to keep people in the game even if player numbers are low.
Yup, absolutely agree.

An early look at what's on sale this week, time to pick up a good deal

Quoting: jasondaigoThe Humblebundle website says Shadowgrounds:Survivor is a Linux game, Steam says its not. Does anybody know the truth? Maybe it once was supported?

If memory serves, it was ported to Linux for one of the older Humble Indie Bundles. Humble do have a Linux version and for whatever reason (possibly contracts) Frozenbyte never put the Linux build on Steam. This happened for other games too.

DXVK 1.0.2 is out with some bug fixes, d9vk seems to be progressing nicely

If d9vk eventually got pulled into Steam Play/Proton or merged into DXVK itself, when it's further developed, it could be another big win for Linux gamers getting more performance out of Windows games.
To be clear, the plan is to merge it if it matures enough. Joshua definitely knows his stuff and dedicates a lot of time and effort to this project, and I believe it can happen, but keep in mind that the project isn't backed by anyone and if Josh has to pull out of it for whatever reason, there's going to be no one to maintain it in the long run.
Great! I did chat with Joshua about it previously and he did mention it was a possible plan for it, good to know you would be open to it :)

Great stuff from you both
