What even more developers think of Valve's Steam Play

Quoting: dannielloAbout Marc video: yes, nice Linux native gaming advertisement. I know that in adverts everything need to be pretty, working great, big "native" numbers, etc.

But reality is more brutal. Easily could be prepared quite opposite video with very sad information: Linux native support very often it is illusion. Linux native ports often are abandoned (Ticket to Ride), with start issues (War Thunder) or even cannot be finished (even in Valve game: Half-Life Opposing Force - end map is not loading after kill main boss).
And how many Windows games have huge glaring issues? A lot.

I have removed a few comments that referenced a rather anti-trans comment which was also removed.

In regards to who posted the initial anti-trans comment: You know who you are, stop or face a ban.

Just to make something clear, I do expect everyone to follow the rules. I don't care if you're a supporter or not, the same rules apply to everyone. Also keep in mind I (and other contributors) cannot humanly be here all the time to moderate. So if something not right slips past the net, make sure you click the flag icon to report their post so we can deal with it when we are around.

One or two people slinging insults, does not make up the whole community. Don't brand the entire community on one or two people acting poorly.

Happy for people to discuss such stuff, but please do remember GOL is a sanctuary for everyone to be involved. I don't want to see any hateful speech directed at any groups here please, no stupid snide remarks either about gender or anything.

And then I googled to find this: http://life-is-strange.wikia.com/wiki/File:BtS_Aurora_Creek.jpg [External Link]

Seems pretty solid to be Life is Strange 2. Unless Feral are trying to throw us off :P
LiS2 is not set in Arcadia Bay though :S:
Well if they put "Arcadia Bay" as the teaser, that would be so obvious it would have been pointless ;)

Quoting: jensWhy is it so important how the game is packaged and compiled? It should perform, should be stable and the developer/publisher should know that the money came from Linux. I'm fine if these three conditions are given.
That's how I feel about a lot of this stuff, to the end user (the actual gamer) it should matter, everything behind the scenes should be invisible to you.

Part of the problem though is what I mentioned, Steam Play titles don't currently show as a Linux game on the store + the problems then other stores have. We don't want to end up having Steam lock-in. As much as I value what Valve does, the last thing I want is them getting everything and other stores getting nothing.
Yes, as stated, I get the issue with other stores. Though it is no actual lock-in, Valve does not prevent GOG or itch.io to setup something similar to proton.

Edit: Lots of typos.
I'm not saying it will create lock-in since Proton is open source, but the reality is developers who end up relying on it will not do Linux versions and since they will then put even less effort in, the chances of them bundling it for other stores IMO is zero.
