Quoting: GuestSo now that I've had time to think about this news more, I thought I'd try add more discussion points.

Disclaimer: I personally find it odd that people are praising Valve so much here. Valve didn't make wine. Or dxvk. Or actually any of the tools that make this possible. They're just packaging it into Steam.
Let's be clear though, Valve did fund the development of DXVK - so essentially, yes they did make. They've been funding it through all but the first what, two releases?

Quoting: KelsHopefully they'll replace those little text tooltips with something a bit easier to read at a glance. Plus picking up stuff seems a little finicky. The player seems to take a couple of tries to pick something up early in the video.
I think it would be a lot better, if there was a bigger area around an item to pick it up. It would make it a lot smoother.

Quoting: KelsOtherwise though, it seems like a fairly solid Fortnite clone Battle Royale game. Certainly better than a lot of the others on the market.
Yeah, even with the obvious issues, it's not a finished game, hopefully it will improve. The addition of skills (and actual Linux support) could be fun and the mode without skills for the people who prefer it is a nice touch too.

Quoting: EhvisI'd turn music off in a game like this anyway. If the music was even from the game. The sound is really annoying indeed, but they said in the comments that it was on their to do list. And apparently they changed a few already. Still, it was quite obvious that they didn't have a real sound engineer working on it.
Honestly, for simple things like footsteps, they could probably find some public domain sound that's way better than what they currently have.

Tried Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and yup, works like any other game. Tried S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (not on Valve's official list) and also worked like a dream.

Sadly, Skyrim Special Edition didn't give me any NPC voices, so that was a bit of a bust for now.

Doom is going to take forever to download, so I think it might be time to get some sleep and gather my thoughts...

Update from Valve to me:
Hey Liam, the normal algorithm is in effect, so if at the end of the two weeks you have more playtime on Linux, it'll be a Linux sale. Proton counts as Linux.
Excellent.

Quoting: GuestQUESTION: Once this goes stable, what's to stop every desktop gamer jumping to Linux, especially with bright new horizons like Mesa 18, RADV, and Linux completely smacking the pants off Windows with the new Threadripper?
Titles with harsh DRM that Wine/Proton simply cannot support. That's the big one that comes to mind right now.

Doesn't currently work for me. Purchased Doom like a good reporter to test the feature out, needs you to enable it for all titles and...Steam Client crashes. Update: For those that missed it, it works now.

BATTLETECH has an expansion named FLASHPOINT coming out this November

Quoting: ZaxthI can't wait for the excuse "We are unable to dedicate resources to a Linux port at this time, due to work on the new expansion" then a couple months later "We are making sure the Windows version of Battletech with our new Flashpoint expansion works best on Windows and Mac before bringing it to Linux" Much later... "Unfortunately there won't be a Linux port due to work on Battletech 2, but that will come to Linux sometime after release" And a round and round she goes.
I understand the sentiment here due to the delay, I really do, but honestly I really do think they're working on it. They repeatedly say so and the Linux build is included in their current unreleased update when looking at SteamDB - so it's possible it will be out with the next patch.
