Quoting: GuestThe same has been said over and over again if developers "just used openGL" it's the same argument with a different name.I still maintain my position on Vulkan, that it won’t suddenly increase the amount of Linux ports we get and so far I feel I’ve been right on the money with that. People have repeatedly argued the opposite with me across various sites, but I clearly haven’t been wrong on it yet. However, I don’t want to undermine the importance of Vulkan for the future of Linux gaming and I do expect more Vulkan games on Linux in 2018, but not due to Vulkan itself, just due to Linux getting more games.Of course Vulkan will help increase the number of Linux releases eventually, but that will only ramp up as fast as developers plumb their game engines for it. Linux is a lot closer in reach when you're on Vulkan. :3

Quoting: STiATHmh, I don't see anything released ... am I missing the source code? There is none visible for me in the repo. From the Telegram Group chat [External Link], the AMDVLK is just info. The xgl repo is the vulkan api implementation that works with the PAL code.
Seeing the PAL code though.

Never go by SteamDB lists, they are manual and often very behind in terms of confirmed games. I often go on there myself and tag games as working on Linux, but from what I understand through the site directly it requires multiple people to confirm a single game. You can also edit their list on GitHub and send a pull request too (I've also done that before).
The RTS 'Forged Battalion' is not coming to Linux, despite reports saying it will

The single time Dino D-Day was mentioned (see here was again using public information where the developer said it.
Those are not mistakes, those are using publicly available information we are referencing.
The problem is, the linked site in the article constantly makes errors, which results in us getting emails about them because people think it's correct and I'm here to state what the developers tell me directly.
That same site only recently posted about Pillars of the Earth book 2 releasing next year, despite it releasing a week before they posted that. There was also an EVERSPACE updated for Linux article, it wasn't, it was an Xbox/Windows 10 only update for a feature that has been in the Linux version since release (they removed the entire article and reddit post when I mentioned it, without any word or a quick thanks). I don't think I need to continue, it's a long list ;)
The point is, information needs to be checked and Linux gamers deserve the right information.

Quoting: PlayXMistakes are possible and everyone can make some. It is not the fine way to blame other sites for mistakes. GOL did some in the past, too. Still waiting for DayZ, Dino D-Day and some other games ;-)The only two times we mentioned DayZ (see here is where it was publicly stated that the developer was interested.

Edit: To be clear, that's not a diss at Phoronix, I'm just making the facts clear.

Quoting: meggermanTo quote the article:Quoting: liamdaweAMD announced their official open source Vulkan driver, but it hasn’t yet been released. So nothing has changed there, we already knew they were going to do it, but they still haven’t actually done it.https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd-open-vulkan&num=1 [External Link]
What am i missing here ? I thought it was released now.
Quoting: PhoronixAs far as when the open-sourcing is going to occur, it will likely be within a few days.So Phoronix announced a release that as of yet hasn't happened.
Edit: To be clear, that's not a diss at Phoronix, I'm just making the facts clear.
Gory FPS 'Apocryph' now has a Linux test build to try, pretty damn good

The Libretro Team and other emulators are being ripped off by companies trying to make a quick buck

Quoting: GuestNot to disrespect the work that RetroArch does, but even if they do get the recognition they deserve, I'll bet that it won't filter down to the emulator authors, who are IMO the ones doing the real work.I have to say I'm honestly a little sad to see this kind of attitude of "real work", what they do has less worth? I fully agree the emulators they pull in should be credited, but to say it like that...

The result is the same though, licenses aren't being followed and companies are being dicks about it.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThese do seem to be cases of copyright infringement, but for the most part don't seem to be cases of open source code being ripped off. Rather, in the summaries and linked posts I see again and again references to proprietary non-commercial code, which I take to be closed-source blobs with licenses which allow sharing but not resale.I've adjust the wording to make the whole open source/non-commercial stuff a bit clearer. Thanks for pointing it out.
Thus the problem is mostly people violating closed source licenses which do not allow commercial use. I had been intending to ask whether these folks have talked to the Free Software Foundation, who might be able to help and/or give useful legal advice--but if the issue is non-Free software, that might not be a relevant question.
The result is the same though, licenses aren't being followed and companies are being dicks about it.
