I love advice, so I will reply directly to the points raised.
I'm not saying screw anyone, like I said before, everyone gets to read GOL no matter what. I consider myself one of the least greedy people around. We have no adverts, no paywalls, no timed articles, nothing. Everyone is valued by me whether they give $1 or $100.
"Support me on Patreon to keep GamingOnLinux (and me) alive."
That's hardly hiding anything is it? It's also the pinned Tweet on our Twitter account. It's also in the "topic" of the IRC channel I run.
It's whatever people think it's worth. The fact is, I actually know people who spend plenty a month on magazines filled to the brim with adverts, as I'm sure a lot of people know someone who does that.
And finally, again, people don't have to give anything.
Quoting: wolfyrion1. First you have to assume that even $1 means a lot to some people and with VAT it may become a bit more. This is the entire point of Patreon, give more to people who give more, but everyone gets what I do on the website no matter the value they pay to me. It's no different than tiered systems in anything else.
for example people that pledge $5 they pay actually pay $5.95 at the end.
Also you have to assume that some people maybe are supporting you as a patreon because they are expecting some kind of a reward and some maybe dont expect anything.
Well actually you have to treat your Patreons more or less equally with some kind of a reward when you can.
Quoting: wolfyrion2.Your pledge categories reminds me of some greedy games the more you pay the more you awarded , so whats next ? pay 15 and you get a priority of a day one release game steam key?So, wanting to eat/drink/live and attempting to find novel ways is being greedy? You're clearly not my intended audience here, to be honest I think you're really quite rude. The point is, people can give me any amount they want, they don't even need to select a reward if they don't want to. As a blogger/journalist, there's only so much I can provide on a Patreon. Giving a little extra in the way of keys to people who give me a little extra help seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Is like you are saying screw you $1 and $5 give me more money and get your steam keys if you want...
Then the patreon will say " screw you gamingonlinux and your steam keys, I am getting my humble monthly with just $12 and I am more than happy than spending 5.95 for your website" At the end some people may except an award and some maybe not , some people may say I like this website and I just support it and some other may say "why to support it since I have other ways to get my gaming news and I dont get any rewards , so whats the point?"

Quoting: wolfyrion4.Finding a reward to please your patreons is a bit hard, Some people maybe dont consider steam keys as a reward so they actually dont care about it so you maybe need a better way to satisfy your patreons. I cant tell you what rewards you can give them but some gaming sites created some tutorials exclusive for ALL of their patreons , how to create a game in Unreal or How to do a character in blender and so on.....The possibilities are endless. Of course after a week or so you may release this article/tutorials to the public. I am just expressing some ideas.I am always looking at other interesting ideas, but I'm glad you seem to understand it is actually quite hard to come up with good ideas. If people don't care about the keys, then so be it. People don't have to pledge at any particular level, as already mentioned.
Quoting: wolfyrion5. Becoming a patreon to some is bit expensive/annoying and one time donation it maybe more attractive to some. The more options the better for gamingonlinux. As already mentioned in comments and at the bottom of the article, Paypal is also now open.
Quoting: wolfyrion6.Some people find it hard to find where the hell you are hiding the Patreon Website or donation article site. You need a large button in the front page to say "DONATE" or "Support Gaming on Linux".There's a very clear box that spans the entire content at the top of the site that clearly states:
As far as I remember I send a friend to donate or become a patreon and he come back with the words "screw it I cant find anything about donations or patreons on that site"
"Support me on Patreon to keep GamingOnLinux (and me) alive."

Quoting: wolfyrionwell I could write some more points but I got an emergency call and I have to go to IT support so take care and I hope you understand my points.I appreciate all constructive feedback.
As I said at start some words maybe sound a bit harsh but I just wanted to give my points out.
I dont intend to do any harm or whatever just pointing out some points that may help to improve gamingonlinux overall.

GOG Connect adds more games, plus a huge summer sale now on

Quoting: Guest3 more games for my gog collection! GOG connect is a brilliant decision by GOG, i just wonder how they got publishers to go along with this.Well, it's not massively different to buying from say Humble Store and getting DRM Free build + Steam key. Or developers who do the same on itch and their direct websites.

Patreon can be cancelled and restarted at any time, which I've seen a few people do already :)
Edit: That said, I guess Paypal [External Link] if people want to do quick one time donations should be an option.

Quoting: Grim85does GOL have a one off donation system, as opposed to monthly patreon. Given my real life monetary situation, continual donation wouldn't be something I'd be interested in, but a one off donation would be possible at certain times.Patreon is the easiest for me both in terms of features and when it comes to taxes it makes things super simple. Since they pay VAT for me (VAT is a huge mess in Europe so to not have that burden is awesome) and I only have to track one place for income.

GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin drops D3D12 in favour of Vulkan

4 Jun 2017 at 10:31 pm UTC
Quoting: chimpyOne of the devs posted on phoronix:Odd, since that contradicts what their official update post (as quoted in the article) says.
"No.
In most cases we found the D3D12 backend to be faster. It was faster because it did some threading tricks that the Vulkan backend currently doesn't do. However, that performance advantage slims significantly on higher end systems.
The D3D12 backend showed the most benefit for Intel iGPU users that could support D3D12, but not Vulkan. This was a lot of users. Intel iGPUs dominate our top GPUs used stat in analytics.
While it's unfortunate, we chose to keep the code base easier to maintain, and dropping D3D12 let us do just that. This was the biggest reason. Due to needing a very specific version of the Win10 SDK, retargeting the project to a new version every time the SDK updated wasn't feasible. As it requires buildbot admin coordination as well. And since we have no idea how microsoft intends to manage the Win10 SDK with VS 2017 which we recently migrated to, if microsoft chooses to constantly update it, that's a huge headache for us.
Additionally, the maintainer of the D3D12 backend pretty much disappeared after getting it merged to master, and due to the questionable quality of the code, none of the regular graphics devs wanted to touch it. It fell out of feature parity and users were frustrated that nobody was fixing anything in that backend."

Side note:

Feral Interactive to livestream Dawn of War III on Linux the day before release

Quoting: ellie_feral:woot: you forgot to mic drop ;)Quoting: dubigrasuFeral Strategy Games Interactive ™Fair enough, we do love our strategy games. DiRT Rally has an awesome Campaign Map, and the thousands of units in Life Is Strange were epic. You'd have thought the turn-based manoeuvring of massive armies in games like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Shadow of Mordor, Mad Max, GRID Autosport and HITMAN would be bizarre, but it worked out really well -- though the fleet of tanks in Alien: Isolation was a bit weird. What faction did you pick in Tomb Raider? I went with the Dwarves.
The latest Steam Hardware Survey shows Linux market-share has increased, slightly

People seem to misunderstand what a survey does.

Quoting: themixturemediaWhen I barely get the steam survey and that is the same issue with my daughters computer. It makes you wonder how accurate the survey really is, it should be pushed out to everyone once a month. You realize it's a survey, right? Of course it doesn't capture everyone or the same people each month. It is meant to show trends.
People seem to misunderstand what a survey does.
Micro Machines World Series is being ported to Linux by Virtual Programming

Quoting: pete910Hard to tell with your northern accent :woot:Quoting: liamdaweI was talking the **** as reference to the witcher port;)Quoting: pete910Should "VP" and "port" be in the same sentence ?Wine and VP's eON are two very different beasts.
Would "VP is doing the wine wrapper for .... " be more apt :P
People only act like wrappers are some terrible thing due to the original way The Witcher 2 was released, as it was in a bad state, but now it's fine.
Practically all porters (yes Feral & Aspyr) use some form of a wrapper. Re-writing a rendering engine for Linux games would rarely be worth it, not until we have a much bigger share of the market.
