Breaking Point, an Arma 3 mod is moving to Unreal Engine 4 with Kickstarter, Linux & Vulkan planned

Quoting: GuestThey are not hoping, there WON'T BE an early access period at all.
If they get funded on Kickstarter yes, which is my point about their hopes. Those hopes will likely fade if they cannot find funding, it's happening plenty of times and has pushed developers into Early Access as the game wouldn't get made otherwise.

Shotgun Farmers, a totally hilarious FPS where your bullets grow the guns is out in Early Access

Quoting: razing32Wonder how the cross-OS compatibility is. Might be fun to play with my non enlightened friends :P
It has cross-platform online play. That's only usually an issue with Feral & Aspyr ports.

Quoting: pete910Should "VP" and "port" be in the same sentence ?

Would "VP is doing the wine wrapper for .... " be more apt :P
Wine and VP's eON are two very different beasts.

People only act like wrappers are some terrible thing due to the original way The Witcher 2 was released, as it was in a bad state, but now it's fine.

Practically all porters (yes Feral & Aspyr) use some form of a wrapper. Re-writing a rendering engine for Linux games would rarely be worth it, not until we have a much bigger share of the market.

Update on the release date: The release date is a bit confusing, since their tweet says the 23rd, but Steam and their own store Deliver2 say the 20th. I'm waiting to hear back on what date is correct.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTI still believe is possible to find a way to get things working. It's just a matter of time to investigate the problem and try to find a work around.

And yes, obviously it's up to Feral to talk to the publisher to make him change the original code. I'm just the customer, it's not my cup of tea. I would like to spent money, it seems like Feral Interactive doesn't want my money. How unfortunate.
Do you really need to say this kinda of crap every time it comes up? It's really irritating. It's been explained plenty of times now, directly to you.

It's not simple, they've quite obviously researched it plenty, but it's not in their hands. They are not responsible for updating the Windows version. Yes it would be nice, it would likely get them more sales, but faced with no port or a port with limited multiplayer I will take it any day.

Strange, have updated the wording in the article to reflect that.

I never did get why you did these streams in the middle of the day when people are at work/school etc.

Is it because of Feral's schedule ?
I did a quick search and they are located in the UK so I would assume they work 9 to 17 like everybody else.
Yes, we have to go by when Feral are in their offices to do it.

Part of the reason why I will be doing an entirely separate event every week in the UK evening time for everyone else.

Stardock CEO asking to see interest in Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation on Linux with Vulkan

Quoting: EhvisI generally share mirv's opinion on the matter. I don't like these threads, whether they are started by users or developers. I don't think they serve any practical use. Only a small number will users will ever reply to them. So after that, you're still left with the same question: how many people could potentially be interested. Ideally you'd want developers to create a port because it's the right thing to do. It happens (kudos to those that do), but the norm is that the investment must be earner back with profit. So then developers still have to go back to the general statistics, decide if there are reasons why sales may be higher or lower among Linux users, and determine whether this is worth their porting investment. So if the thread is useful at all, it will be to point the finger at how few people responded and that a port is not feasible because of it.

So no, I won't respond to such requests, even if I want the game.
Also keep in mind that there are not only developers in a company. Management often makes decisions like these, and I wouldn't be surprised if this thread was from a developer trying to show management that there's money to be made on the platform.

Not every game studio is a two person company with a CEO that's a developer with strong moral principles. As sad as it might be, a lot of them are here to do what companies do; maximize profit (though there are some outliers).

I for one wouldn't throw the rock at this person outreaching to us.
This person, as mentioned in the article, IS the CEO of Stardock.

Another promised land like ARK... let's hope I'm wrong, very wrong.
Well the difference here is that Planet Nomads doesnt look terrible on Linux, whereas ARK has a huge downgrade on Linux.
