OpenGL threaded GL dispatch is now in Mesa-git, should improve a few games performance

Work on it isn't complete though, as following some other discussions on the Mesa-dev mailing list there's still a bunch of 'piglit tests' it causes crashes with. Those will gradually get cleaned up over time.
As I never heard of it, I looked it up.
It's a framework for automatic OpenGL tests:

Thanks, popped a quick link in the text to it if people want to see.

Editorial: On paying for Linux games when you already have a Windows version

Quoting: bubexelI will put various examples, netflix or spotify.

You have to have a new account or pay again for use it on a phone? or your smart tv or on your pc, linux or windows or whatever?
So, but that's a bad example. You don't even remotely own anything on either service, you're renting time from them to Stream copyrighted content. Stop paying, you lose access. Netflix and Spotify are platforms themselves, they are a very different thing to what we're talking about here.

Let’s face it, you don’t buy a game for a PlayStation 4 and demand an Xbox One version as well, do you? No, you don’t.
They are 2 different pieces of hardware that act as one platform, yes, but they run on 2 different pieces of hardware. Steam itself IS the platform, and the hardware element often doesn't need to be changed.
Steam is not the platform, Steam is a storefront with a client.

Let me give you an example, like my PC example in a previous comment.

"COMING SOON TO STEAM!" - Right. Does that mean it will run on Linux? No. You need clarification on what OS it will actually run on, the OS is the platform.

Quoting: Nor MantisI look at games much like I look at music. When I was a kid I purchased records only. Then I got a car and wanted to listen while driving, so I bought the same music on tape. Then CD's came and I bought the same music again. Then MP3 came in and I paid to download. Now records are back in and once again, I am buying the same music I love.
It's not the same as having to buy the tape again each time you switch a car. ;-)
The car is not a platform, same as the PC is not a platform. The tape deck is the platform, same as the OS is a platform.
Exactly.

It's the same as "Coming to PC!" When PC is NOT a platform. The OS is.

2Dark released without a Linux version despite promising it during crowdfunding

Update: They have now updated their news here [External Link], you can ask for a refund. This is why I feel it's always worth pointing out, we cannot let developers break promises and think nothing of it.

Edit: Multiple other sites picked up my article on it, so I'm glad to see it all get noticed properly.

Quoting: EnverexNo, just no.

Additionally, your logic is "well someone has to pay the porters!". Ok, so why am I paying the FULL price of the game again, not just a "porting fee"? I've already bought it once - that paid the designers, the artists, the writers, the coders. You're telling me to pay the FULL price of the game again JUST for the port? No, that's greedy and they can fuck off if that's how they want to play.
How about, you read the article, slowly. I clearly said they could use an upgrade type of deal.

I'm not outright saying people have to buy a Linux copy 100% full price for every single Windows game they own. Also, for a lot of people who claim to be Linux-only gamers, there sure is a lot of people getting angry at having to apparently pay double, when they only buy Linux games? If that was true, this wouldn't be an issue ;)

Like I also said, very clearly, it is not a one size fits all approach.

Some of the attitudes being shown in here are absolutely shocking. Mainly, because it seems people keep glossing over things I've actually said in the article.

Quoting: EnverexYes, yes I would turn away from it. I've already paid AAA release title price, why would I pay that again? How much, out of the total that they need to recover, do you think the porting cost? The game costs X because they have to pay a LOT of people (as well as extra work such as marketing, etc). Double dipping on a second sister-platform for people that already own a copy doesn't sit well because that person has already funded every part of that development, except for the porting, which compared to the whole would be a pretty insignificant amount of money.
You, like a lot of others are making assumptions here. Who said you would have to pay the exact same amount as the price it was on Windows at original release? I sure didn't. It would of course be up to the porter/publisher to decide on the price of it. I said I (specifically I) would, not that everyone should.

Gee, I wonder why that is.
Yes, I do wonder why? The term "upgrade" is pretty clear in what it means.
