I would hardly call that upfront, that's an old post before this campaign was even a thing, that linked first post states:
I consider that a bit shady personally.
If it does come to Linux sometime, great, I will play it. There's no way I'm funding it now though.
Can't guarantee a day 1 Linux release, but it will be something we'll be looking at from the startYet this campaign said Linux/Mac was day-1 in the FAQ, I email them, it gets edited with no reply to me.

Update: After posting this, they actually changed their FAQ. It no longer states Linux will be a day-1 platform.
I guess they got my email.

You can't hide my quotes :).
Will be interesting to see if I get a reply to my email, would like to see the situation cleared up.

Quoting: drmothDepends how a developer has planned for it. Middleware is most often the problem. With the cross-platform capabilities of Unity it won't be a problem.I don't want to be too cynical, but I think I've heard that before.

There was a time for a lot of us when Windows was all we knew, or what we mainly used, or even now dual-boot as we like the idea of Linux but it's not just there yet.
Wine comes in handy for all of those people, and it's quite a large amount of people in reality.
Having older games ported means it's more native games that don't need to be configured with Wine, it just makes it easier, and any future sales can be properly counted for our platform. For dual-booters, it would mean one less game again to reboot for keeping them on Linux for longer.
Wine is an amazing bit of software, and I think people who totally shun it are a bit silly. There was a time when it was really all we had. You don't need to cut out your favourite series of games just because you use Linux thanks to it.
Any porting company will be fully aware of any crossover with people who already own it, they wouldn't go into it if they didn't think it would be worth it.
We're talking about a positively received game, and a popular series coming over to Linux natively, what's not to love?

Quoting: subI am only able to do this for games I own, I do not own this game and Topware don't give me keys to any of their games. Can't write about what I don't have :)Quoting: ziabiceThanks!Quoting: subIs this a Winelib port or the Windows game packaged and preconfigured in Wine?Runs in a WINE sandbox.
I'd really appreciate if Liam could add that bit of information in future articles of "uses Wine" ports. :)
At least when that information is available or he has access to the game.
Imho Winelib ports are actually not really a bad thing (for old games at least) while just packaging the
Windows binary is quite *meh*.

Quoting: GuestWaited for it. Will an activated key from the website count as an Linux sale? after playing it on Linux on the first week? You don't need to worry about that, they use Humble Store for their keys at the moment, it's as good as any store.

It's pretty harsh and disrespectful to say what you did when you know nothing about their code. Not all developers are total pros and can just switch up their workflow to Linux builds right away. People need to be a little more understanding.
Really glad it's under serious consideration now, looks so awesome.

Quoting: Mountain Man"I spoke to the developer, who said if there's a demand for it, they will seriously consider a Linux version."I hope the developers reply here on GOL and their even more positive recent Steam forum posts helps you change your tune.
I hate weasel statements like this. It ranks up there with developers who say that they will consider a Linux version if the Windows version sells well. It's really just another way of saying that they have no interest in making a Linux version. That and the fact that they're targeting DX11 pretty much rules out a Linux version, so at the moment, I have zero interest in this game.
