Quoting: clelWhy not use Vulkan?
Probably because they have been doing this for a while, and Vulkan is only just becoming an option.

I think the only downside is that Snow isn't on a general weather rotation, it's only on maps that support it right?

Certain websites like to claim they have insider information
Phoronix, you've been served. It's on.
Not naming anyone directly, but when some websites are weeks late covering something and they claim they have an anonymous source and all they can show for it is SteamDB: Don't buy into it.

Quoting: adolsonValve needs to start getting on these partnership projects much earlier so that their operating system is treated on equal footing with the others, then more people will start taking it seriously and look at it as a viable option. The Rocket League delay is ridiculous, and now this - perhaps the biggest news since the SteamOS launch, that a Japanese company is bringing a huge fighting franchise to Linux - has been delayed... And Valve is directly involved with both. The mind, it boggles.
This is not a delay, as no release date for SteamOS was announced, this is the first time they have mentioned it. Rocket League is another story, and the delay there is a bit silly.

Quoting: TheBossSo, who thinks it will use Vulkan? Be interesting to see!
At this moment, impossible.
The games we are playing today (this month and the next 2) have been programmed 2 years ago.
And 2 years ago there wasn't Vulkan.

If Vulkan is released now, expect games in the next one or two years...
maybe some companies like Valve who are directly involved have been playing with it for some time, are going to be the first ones.

Also: this game is done with Unreal Engine. This engine handles Linux with Opengl. Unreal Engine still doesnt have Vulkan support.
I am well aware of the facts ;). Was a bit of fun.

Besides Valve are involved in both Vulkan and the port, and who knows how long for. Valve also created a wrapper for OpenGL, who's to say they can't do the same for Vulkan for the short term?
