Wine 1.8 was finally released

After struggling with PlayOnLinux, I have ditched it in favour of Crossover now, the UI is much nicer in Crossover so far so good. I only use Wine for Starcraft II as I've loved Starcraft since as long as I can remember, and I stopped my stance of hating Wine a little while ago as it's just too useful for previously owned games.

Might have to sub to Crossover as it's really quite nice.

We already have the responses from it we needed. In future, if something is allowing you to do something you shouldn't, maybe tell us right away instead of taking it upon yourself to edit? :)

Quoting: Segata SanshiroSo what's the alarm actually for? I don't understand its purpose. Radiation coming from the screen or from a nuclear bomb?
Something left in from their testing of the units speakers I imagine.

Quoting: FeistDoes anyone know what the "Linux status" is for the upcoming sequel to this game?

Because I can't see much reason to bother with this game, if the studio has removed Linux from their plans completely after this debacle. (I still bear an old and strong grudge against MS for releasing Halo 1&2 to windows but keeping Halo 3 an "xbox exclusive")
This is taken from their Kickstarter for number 2:
Believe us, it's not that we're not interested in producing a version for Mac/Linux/Console, it's just that we want to get the gameplay and world fleshed out in all the detail that it needs first. Once we have the game fully worked out, we'll start looking at porting it to other platforms. That’s not something that’ll happen during the Kickstarter or indeed this year.

But - and it’s an important but - we do have most things in place to support several other platforms, since we are starting work from the Divinity: Original Sin- Enhanced Edition engine. We just don’t want to make any promises yet.

Khronos gives an official update on Vulkan

Quoting: gabsd84Also, I don't really understand the massive hostility towards AMD. It's like watching someone trying to do the right thing and getting kicked by a mob constantly. I understand their drivers where pretty bad in the past but they have open source drivers that are officially supported and improving constantly. Can anyone point me to Nvidia's official Open Source drivers? Is there out of the box support for the latest Nvidia cards in an open source driver? No. Is Nvidia open sourcing Gameworks? No. People should really think hard about what their money is supporting.

If open source does not matter to the Linux gaming community anymore, what's the point of Linux? Windows currently provides better gaming performance and has all the proprietary code you could ask for.

End rant
Of course open source matters, but I've used AMD and I know how terrible it was when I used it. Their open source driver is nice and improving, but it won't run all the latest ports (neither will their closed driver). So, they still aren't the best choice right now.

I would rather be on an open source system, and have 1-2 things closed source (Steam, Nvidia drivers) to play the games I want rather than an entirely closed system. I think it's going a bit fucking overreacting to suddenly say things like "what's the point of Linux" just because some of us choose to allow ourselves a couple closed bits of kit.
