Speculation: Shadow Of Mordor Appears In A Seemingly Linux Focused App Bundle On SteamDB

Quoting: operaActually, i already was expecting this somehow. Their has been a certain (officially) SteamOS Screenshot a while ago listing Shadow of Mordor in the games which was bit like teasing a Linux port. As I recal the same procedure was happing with another game already ported (Civ 5?). And some guys were also connecting the Feral radar hints with Shadow of Morder. As for me I was already that convinced that I added the game to my steam wishlist recently, although I only buy Linux games.
Btw, I am also expecting Payday 2 because it was also teased on SteamOs Screenshot a while ago. Take a look at this:

Probably all Linux games soon. *fingers crossed*
That screenshot is for Steam Big Picture, so means nothing for SteamOS, but it would be nice.

The thing is, we've now had some massive ports, it's not even close to being unreasonable to expect more. A year ago this would have been a much more sceptical post of mine.

Didn't even notice the SteamDB comment, added it to the article to reduce any over hype people may accidentally get into ;)

Quoting: aLlinux gaming might not hinge on steam machines specifically, but it does hinge on valve...

If they stopped pushing it right now, the inertia would take us for a while, but dont fool yourself, not for very long
I think you're right: To be honest, I think the editorial is a little misleading: Many of the examples Liam lists are only happening because Valve are acting as a catalyst and investing in Linux as a gaming platform. I think if a high-profile project of theirs like SteamMachines failed, that would be very bad for us.

But I prefer stss' more positive perspective.
How is the article misleading exactly? I'm talking just about Steam Machines, but I never stated we don't need Steam/Valve, to which I think we do and they have been fantastic for us.

Quoting: GuestOh, they use Unity… I think I’ll pass.
Why do people keep saying this? If you don't like unity, then keep it to yourself. Indie develops have no choice but to use it since it cost less to use than other engines.
While it wasn't the most constructive comment it echo's how a large portion of us feel.

Unity generally performs poorly on Linux, also it's not really cheaper than other engines since stuff like Unreal Engine can be used for a tiny amount a month vs a massive upfront cost of Unity, and Unreal performs far better.

Epic Games Are Throwing Money At Developers

Quoting: SslaxxNot quite no strings attached... there is still the 5% royalties (making the grant more a loan, really). Still, for getting games off the ground in the first place the dev grants idea is a good one.
That rule is there anyway and has nothing to do with this grant, so it is no strings.

Sounds like a plan, as something automatic like an I.P would be great, and simply telling them they have already done it, and preventing them doing it again would be fab.

Edit > I guess one day I should whip up a quick GOL Survey feature so we don't even need to use outside stuffs. I need to implement our basic poll feature for articles first though I think.

Honestly, i think we need some way to make sure people don't submit duped entries, even if it's simple.

An email is a nice way, or simply i.p logging or anything really that might be the same each time, as we will do reminders (reminders are good).

We don't know what the gambling focused company 'Playtech' will do with GameMaker, but we will keep an eye out if they ever decide to bring GameMaker to Linux.
But GameMaker IS available for Linux, isn't it?
No it's not, they have an exporter for Ubuntu.
