The amount sold is what matters, not the percent.
I don’t agree. Linux users showed much more interest in the game than Windows gamers, and your choice of words implies the opposite.
It's money from sales that keep developers alive and making games, not a percentage of platforms. That's my point.

I don't want to dance around the issue and get hyped about having a higher percentage than usual when the sales are tiny.

The fact is, even from Linux gamers, 50 sales is very low.

Rich Geldreich On The State Of Linux Gaming, And It's Not Good

Considering his heated blog posts on Valve, Linux, OpenGL etc it's reasonable to think he quit before he was let go by Valve. A jump before you're pushed type of thing.

I can't imagine him getting on well with others at Valve if he thought like this the whole time, but that's just my wild speculation.

Quoting: VedzomEven if the promise is fulfilled, the Linux porters won't get the money if people buy the game before the port.
The Linux porters are the developers themselves, so either way they get the money. The more important things are:
a) Not being counted as a Linux sale
b) Waste of money for a Linux gamer

Quoting: boomanThis new IndieRoyal bundle has all Desura games which includes 3 Linux games.
Why would they advertise Desura and Linux if the client is no longer downloadable?

As pb said, you don't have to use the client for Desura, they have web downloads just like GOG.
