Quoting: PenglingThere's also a sale going on right now to mark the 2023 Tokyo Game Show, which started today. I presume that it'll run for the same length of time as the show itself, which is September 21st to 24th for this year's event.Added in. The banner for it only just seemed to appear for me after I hit publish <_<

Well, the first game was definitely indie by a tiny team. This one however, is by a bigger dev it seems with full Atari backing.

Quoting: PenglingOh, I never meant (or, indeed, said) native - you know my views on Proton from other threads, it's absolutely essential for what I do.Oh I know what you meant, just making sure my own stance is clear :)

Quoting: PenglingI just heard about this, but didn't expect to see it posted on GOL today due to no word yet about Proton support or Steam Deck Verified/Playable status!Well, I see no reason not to cover news about such things, especially remastered of absolute classics like this. We know by know there's a 90% chance anything will just run with Proton :). I would rather cover something I'm interested in myself, and potentially a whole bunch of others, than not cover it just because it doesn't have Native :)

Quoting: williamjcmWell well, what do we have here then, oopsies.Quoting: Liam DaweQuoting: williamjcmThat was supposed to be the case for Unity too, but as they've shown yesterday...I've never seen it stated that you get a perpetual license for Unity, ever. Do you have any sources on that?Retroactive TOS changesFrom https://blog.unity.com/community/updated-terms-of-service-and-commitment-to-being-an-open-platform [External Link], which was posted back in 2019.
When you obtain a version of Unity, and don’t upgrade your project, we think you should be able to stick to that version of the TOS.
In practice, that is only possible if you have access to bug fixes. For this reason, we now allow users to continue to use the TOS for the same major (year-based) version number, including Long Term Stable (LTS) builds that you are using in your project.
Moving forward, we will host TOS changes on Github to give developers full transparency about what changes are happening, and when. The link is https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/TermsOfService [External Link].
The GitHub link is dead, by the way. :D

Quoting: EhvisI think the biggest problem with most engines is the lack of console support. I imagine that is a big breaking point for a lot of devs. And Godot is a prime example of the difficulties in managing that.Sadly the blame is entirely on Sony and Microsoft, who keep a tight grip on all the SDK stuff for it. Quite ridiculous really.

Quoting: LomkeyBigger problem epic can just the same nothing stopping them if unity gets away with it.Epic confirmed years ago, and again [External Link] recently, they cannot change the licensing terms for existing developers. The license you get for Unreal is perpetual on the version you have.

Quoting: GrifterI'm sure I'm lacking all the knowledge, but could someone explain how it's possible for something to be deck verified and only protondb silver? It seems to me like there should be plenty of overlap, and if it works well enough to be deck verified it should be higher rated...? I dunno.ProtonDB relies entirely on user crowdsourced reports, and the error rate on ProtonDB at times can be quite high. People using outdated systems, using launch arguments that screw things up and just adding launch arguments where they clearly don't know what they do (like DXVK Async which was only in older GE Proton releases and didn't work for DX 12 - I still see it a lot) and so on.
