Quoting: Quote from Chris ThornettGood news! It's a bit harsh to call Unity's popularity a monopoly though, when they chose to support Linux while game engine/dev software didn't and still don't - They should be applauded.
Maybe Monopoly isn't the best way to describe it, but it's still mostly true.

While yes it's good they support Linux, they still have no plans to port the editor, so no real applause from me yet.
does it really matter on which platform a game has been developed ?  yes for the developer but no for the gamer.  I really don't care if doublefine developed their last game on windows or on a psvita.  so maybe a bit harsh about the no applause, they should be applauded tbh.

btw you seem to forget about Unigine, they have their engine linux ready for long time, just can't seem to get many games out of it on any platform.
It doesn't matter to me, but it will matter to any developer who uses Linux as their primary platform, that's my point. It doesn't matter to gamers, this is a developer orientated article.

Unigine, reports of being extremely expensive, hard to script for...not to mention 1 Linux game released using it? I hold next to 0 faith in it.

Steam Dev Days Day 2 Highlights

Quoting: Quote from PKM"They believe pay 2 win is fine, if it doesn't upset other players"
But they don't have any pay2win items as far as I am aware, lot's of skins but nothing that gives you advantage over other players (unless you count your character looking fabulous as a advantage) at least not for Dota 2 or TF2.
Last time I played TF2 it had plenty of items that had different statistics including weapons and I had pretty rubbish stuff too.

Fixed, I blame it on being ill.

Quoting: Quote from ShmerlI really don't like when expansion packs are called DLC. It's such a dumb term, but it caught up for some weird reason...
Well an expansion pack is Downloadable Content isn't it? So it's a correct term to use.

What I hate is when free patches where replaced by DLC.

Loren The Amazon Princess RPG & DLC Released For Linux On Steam
15 Jan 2014 at 4:41 pm UTC

Quoting: Quote from edgleyThe title is a bit misleading as the game has been available directly from Winter Wolves for a long time. It's only new on Steam.

Decent game if you like interactive stories and simplified RPG mechanics though.
Title corrected.

Mutant Gangland Turn Based Strategy game To Hit Early Access This Month & Go Open Source

Quoting: Quote from tigerObviously a rip of the old Game Gear game "Head Buster", but it's even worse since Head Buster had attack animations for all available robots and weapons.

I wonder if the developer was partly inspired by this for some of the unit designs? Hardly a "rip", there are masses of turn based strategy games and plenty came before that game you link to.

Quoting: Quote from wassersturmCan we please stick with the official definition [External Link] of the term "Open Source" according to which NC is not acceptable.
That is only "official" if you are part of or follow them. They don't speak for everyone.

Open code is open, open source and free software are different.

Quoting: Quote from WNon-commerical licenses aren't open source though :/ I can understand using an NC license for the artwork, but not the code. That means other people can't start a crowdfunding campaign to hire someone to add new features.
If the source is open, then it is open source as far as I am concerned.

I don't agree that for something to be "open source" it has to have a fully open license. Something can be open source, but still have restrictions on the license, the GPL one of the widest licenses has restrictions in it people seem to forget.
