Oxenfree is a clever, narrative driven supernatural thriller you should check out, my review

I was most amazed at the reality game (I forget what the proper term for this is) elements they included with this. I don't know if there's a good place to read about those, I learned about them from themonotonist's past twitch stream where he also showed some cool radio stuff...

NVIDIA might have more open drivers in future on Linux
20 Mar 2017 at 5:41 pm UTC

Quoting: roothorickI think, if it weren't for The Blob, then Linux wouldn't have been a viable platform for intensive 3D applications at a critical moment, and even its emergence as a viable desktop OS would have been delayed by a good decade or more. It was the crutch needed to keep up with Windows on the performance front and allow it to compete until it had enough momentum to attract professional developers to FOSS drivers.
I don't think it has anything to do with GNU/Linux being a viable desktop OS at all. Things would have been entirely fine in that regard, blob or not. Games and 3D acceleration have been at best an afterthought for users for the entirety of the platform's existence in my opinion.

Quoting: gojulI've read a while ago that 95% of the driver code was shared between Linux and Windows which would explain why they do not open source them. However it is a small step in the right direction.
How exactly does this give a reason for why they wouldn't open source?

The awesome looking FPS 'STRAFE' has been delayed, with no set Linux release date now
14 Mar 2017 at 6:11 pm UTC

We're still in the best situation proprietary gaming on Linux has ever been in. I don't see STRAFE-style projects that come from crowdfunding going away anytime soon either even if future AAA titles are not quite as guaranteed.

As for this game specifically, those developer responses seemed like Linux isn't even for certain... I'm assuming they originally promised it so that reply doesn't sound good.

Munch VR has released an experimental Linux version, munch your way up the food chain

Quoting: meggermanI think demo's are going to become ( or rather should become ) an essential part of SteamVR. You don't know how the title performs or how quesy it's going to make you.. or if it's just shovelware tbh because there are lots of VR demonstrations but not too many really good VR dedicated/tailored games. It's either that or just spamming the refund page :dizzy:
Well, handling it with refunds is okay with me if they don't start rejecting your refund requests because of testing whether VR titles makes you feel sick... Oculus doesn't even offer refunds which is really stupid when we're talking about VR.

Torment: Tides of Numenera, early port report and thoughts

Quoting: buenaventuraI would be very happy if someone could try it on a AMD GPU, since it is not included in the reqs. Does it work at all? Does your AMD GPU have 1gb VRAM, or more?

Pillars of Eternity sucked for me, while wasteland 2 was OK, so I HOPE this might just work! Want to be sure before buying though. It's funny, I just got a small windfall of about 40 dollars, so I am actually tempted to buy this full price.
What's the issue with Pillars of Eternity and your AMD GPU, why does it suck?

Looks like a pretty fun little game utilizing room scale well. The concept reminds me of slither.io.

Quoting: wolfyrionThey were very generous to crowdfunding backers and they gave to them extra copies of the game. Some crowdfunding backers got like 2-3 extra keys , both Steam keys and GOG keys.
Well I guess now all the Gaming Black Markets are flooded with those keys in half price....
They were? I've just gotten a single key for EA that converted to release key. I should be getting a physical copy as well IIRC but that's been all.

GOG is having another weekly retro sale with eleven Linux supported titles
1 Mar 2017 at 4:57 pm UTC

Quoting: DrMcCoyThe LucasArts adventures, including Loom, are using ScummVM instead of DOSBox.

The problem with this Loom release, though, is that it's the VGA CD talkie version, not the superior EGA version. The talkie version is using standard red-book CD audio for speech and a lot of lines are cut (likely because of size/time constraints).

Also, IMHO, the dither-heavy EGA graphics of the original floppy version look way better than the VGA graphics.
Yeah, it's one of the best EGA adventures where the artists had really perfected their craft and knew how to make the most of a constrained medium. The Last Crusade adventure is a similar case where the VGA really isn't anything to write home about.

Quoting: GuestThanks for the information. I’d get LOOM as I remember reading great things about it back in the day, but it’s most likely a DOSbox wrap and I don’t want to spend hours fixing the config like I did for Pinball Dreams, and still end up with something I can’t play in fullscreen because it blocks alt-tab…
Says on the page it's powered by ScummVM. I imagine this is true for most of the LucasFilm/LucasArts titles since they've been well-supported by ScummVM for a long time.
