Quoting: elmapulI've just done regression testing on Wing Commander: Secret Ops and Wing Commander: Prophecy. I've submitted a bug to the WINE developers to fix ntdll/heap.c in WINE. This is not super common, but it does need to happen every now and then. The bigger problems in WINE are more around colour depth switching etc. I'd love it if Wayland fixed it but I suspect they haven't done anything about 16/32-bit colour switching.Quoting: Shmerlthe issue is , how to test everything that exist for each version of wine?Quoting: elmapulwhat about games and applications that only work on older versions of wine? That shouldn't normally happen. If it does, it's a bug that should be reported as a regression.
in theory we can write some unit tests for the apis , in pratice countless things can happen that break the program despite the test saying it should work.

I want to see more native source ports like Star Wars: Jedi Knight 1 [External Link]
Hopefully some sort of Wing Commander game engine port would be nice.

Hopefully they haven't broken Force Feedback support. It's been working for 20 years. I'd like to use it for another 20.

Considering these games have no Linux port, really Take 2 is just shooting themselves in the foot. I won't be buying the trilogy for PC at all. I don't pay for emulating games, software running in WINE/Proton isn't worth the hastle.

The most important part of Freespace 2 is FRED2 the mission editor. QTFred is busting open the future of Freespace2 by bringing FRED2 to Mac and Linux. There's an important lesson for FLOSS game developers in Freespace2's success. Tools matter. Access to modding tools, access to rigging tools and story creation tools are important to keep your game relevant. Freespace 2 would have died years ago if it hadn't had FRED2 and the DMTools pack.
NVIDIA open sourced part of NVAPI SDK to aid 'Windows emulation environments'

Sure this isn't aimed more at getting NVIDIA GPU emulation working in Virtual machines such as Qemu/KVM/VMWare? VMWare uses WINE's DirectX implementation to support DirectX.

GOG needs to up their game on Linux support. As people have stated, there needs to be a Galaxy client for Linux. But as a Linux user I've also noticed that GOG has completely failed at supporting Retro DOS games on Linux. Perfect example: Wing Commander 1/2/3/4/Privateer, Strike Commander, Wing Commander Armada, Wing Commander Academy. All of these games run in Dosbox. All of these games run in Linux in Dosbox. All of these games are on the GOG store. But none of them have been packaged for Dosbox on Linux. Instead they have launchers for Windows and Macintosh. Now whether that's because EA is blocking them from releasing Linux versions or not, I don't know. But at least an explanation from the staff would be nice. Similarly games like Freespace 2, Descent 1/2/3, Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 all have Linux builds but no support from GOG. It'd be nice if someone would actually step up and provide some basic support for Linux titles.

err... if Vegastrike isn't cutting it, get into the code and help fix it dude. The entire game has sourcecode available. It could do with a renderer upgrade and some optimisations. VR Support would be nice, and a gui for editing missions and ships.
