Western Digital Green HDD, How To Stop Them Dying On You

Fantastic, thank you for this info.
I have 3 drives I have checked, which are as follows.
WD Green 2TB WDC WD20EARX-00P - unsure how old but has 5511 power on hours - Load cycle count 76053
Samsung HD204UI 2TB - also unsure how old but has 11150 power on hours - Load cycle count 38791
Samsung HD204UI 2TB - also unsure how old but has 11149 power on hours - Load cycle count 39119
So the WD Green has half the power on time (would be about right as it was a much more recent purchase than the other two) but double the load cycle count.
I have these in a RAID 5 setup in a small home NAS running Open Media Vault (Debian Wheezy). The Web GUI for the system allows me to set my APM configuration for each drive. Would this be the same as following your guide? Currently all of the drives are set for APM to be disabled, so I'm not sure if I need to make any changes or not to prevent this issue. I have just reinstalled the NAS OS and I believe that I did have the APM enabled previously, so not sure if this has led to a worse load cycle count or not.
Any advice would be appreciated please.

I have the exact same problem. An old Core 2 Quad and 560ti which have been fine till now as most games I've played under Linux aren't very demanding. Now AAA recent titles have started appearing, I have been forced to realise how outdated my poor old rig is.
Looking at upgrading to an i5 4690K, Asrock Extreme 6 motherboard, 16GB DDR3 and a 970 as the core of the system. Just need to decide on an SSD, case/PSU and cooling, and make sure all the parts operate under Linux correctly.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroYou just described me perfectly. Combined, I think.I have around 2500 hours in EUIV and CKII. Paradox supporting Linux is what gave me the final impetus to drop my Windows partition and go full Arch. Haven't regretted it once in a year and a half.Quoting: SupayA shame the Paradox games didn't get more love. They've been supporting Linux well and run fantastically.I'm happy EU4 did as well as it did. It's still a niche though, for strategy fans with OCD.

Not exactly great tech support from Deep Silver. I sent them a brief email advising of the issue and that the game was not yet available for download from Steam even though it showed as Linux compatible.
They replied with this:
"Dear Customer,
thank you for your inquiry.
Please send us a system information file in HTML format for further analysis.
How do I generate a system information report in Linux?"
And then listed a long set of instructions about how to use the Ubuntu Software Centre the System Profiler and Benchmark. Didn't exactly answer my query. This doesn't appear to be a purely automated response either as there was a long delay between my original email and this being sent, enough that with the time difference between the UK and US it seems someone came to work, looked at my email and just hit an auto-reply template rather than actually bother doing anything else.
