Mighty Goose is a furious over the top honking good time and it's out now

As a 90's guy, I've just gotta say:

On the road to glory,
ain't no turnin' back!

... Whoops! Wrong gun-toting avians, never mind.

Aolta is a unique casual adult-themed RPG where you explore a romantically wretched city

Heh, I bought it for the funny and "Meet someone to love, become the lord of the local music industry, retire to another planet, and/or maybe get married." stuff. I usually don't mind adult themes, and I like a good VN/Dating sim every once in a while, but I missed the part about just how 'hardcore' the game is. The very first cutscene ...:unsure::huh:

Odd looking Anthropomorphic horse x Elf-like girl copulating

I think I dun goofed.

I'm embarrassed that I bought this 😳, all because I liked the blurb. I forgot to read the bullet points. I won't ask for a refund, because it was my mistake. Barring the gratuitous parts, it is funny, but I could only stand about 12 minutes before I'd had enough. Outright smut ain't my thing, and I feel like a heel for buying on impulse.

I tend to buy cheap itch games featured on here by reflex. I've got to stop doing that.

Beamdog unleash the huge 2.6 update for Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale

Personally, I'm waiting to start a new game until I test for broken mods.

For those who don't know, the Infinity Engine games have an enormous and dedicated modding community spanning 23 years! The Tweaks Anthology [External Link] is a must to me, it just adds so many options! Also, if you find the AI a bit dull, and want to increase the difficulty without letting it cheat via the difficulty slider, try Sword Coast Strategems [External Link], but be warned, it's not for a first timer or the faint of heart.

Note that modding the native versions requires that the games be installed either in a case-insensitive filesystem or one that supports casefolding. This comment [External Link] on the G3 forums can help with setting this up.

Linux Kernel dev bans University of Minnesota for sending malicious patches

Good grief, now the script-kiddies are coming from actual accredited universities with ~49,000 students! Is this really what the world has come to? Lord, I hope not.

This should be added to UMN's Wikipedia page, it's egregious enough!

ΔV: Rings of Saturn now gives the full game in the demo, with one catch

Because I believe in repaying generosity with generosity and putting my money where my mouth is, I just bought ΔV. That, and I'm a sucker for good space sims.

I'll review it after I've progressed a fair bit, which could take some time. 😳 I'm far from the most coordinated person. My Kerbals can attest to this.

Xwayland work for hardware accelerated NVIDIA support has been merged in
12 Apr 2021 at 9:18 pm UTC

I'm really glad it's finally happening, but I wonder just how necessary the switch to Wayland actually is. Dedoimedo [External Link] released a rather thoughtful article on the subject, and I tend to agree with him on several points.

Warning! Grumpy lecturing ahead:

Yes X's old code is a possible attack vector, but I don't know of any attacks ever targeting the display server in all the time I've been using Linux. Most attacks/malware seem to be aimed at headless servers and tend to be tailor made to exploit out of date installations. Besides, Wayland could have its own security concerns to deal with.

I don't get the need to reinvent the wheel here.

The desktop user just needs to be careful not to run scripts without checking them for things that look out of place. They're typically pathetically obvious even to people like me who know next to nothing about scripting. Also, never symlink libraries or put old libraries in /usr/lib or other global directories, that can lead to some real haberdashery.

Also, if you can help it, don't run GUI programs as root (pkexec doesn't work correctly with every program) anyway. Wayland does seem to protect the user from this gotcha, from what I read; I'll give it that at least.

Is there any reason to use Wayland other than the perception of security for the end user? I can't get a straight answer. Does XWayland still have any noticeable overhead when gaming? I'll give it a try when the new NVIDIA driver goes stable.

All things considered, I'll give Wayland a fair shake. I'll probably post my experience in the forums. If you've read this far, thank you. It took me 30 minutes to type this with my one good hand, and I appreciate it.

Total War: THREE KINGDOMS - Fates Divided out now for Linux

Quoting: redneckdrowTo be fair, the choice unfortunately isn't Feral's, it's Creative Assembly's.
Not a single Linux port done by Feral Interactive has ever been available DRM-free, even when the Windows version of the game is not tied to DRM schemes. So I find it a bit hard to believe they would have nothing to do with it.
Which ports don't have DRM on windows? Even the cd versions of older Total War games had rather draconian DRM, before Steam was even a thing! As for non TW games, I wouldn't know. DRM is quickly becoming superfluous these days, with piracy being almost a bygone practice. I view it as unnecessary, but I'll buy a game as long as the DRM isn't annoying (being from the era of the "what is word 56 on manual page 222" makes me feel that way) if it supports Linux well regardless.

Also I just noticed you can like articles. Silly me!

Quoting: GuestI guess that as usual with Feral Interactive, DRM-free will never be an option?
To be fair, the choice unfortunately isn't Feral's, it's Creative Assembly's.

BTW the Rakarth Update [External Link] for TW:WH2 seems to have dropped for us as well. Certainly beats the usual wait.

I have to say, Feral's been on top of it lately. I gladly pre-ordered Rome Remastered, as they've clearly made it a labor of love and I never usually pay full price! Feral's ports are the reason I fully committed to Linux full-time in '15-16 in the first place, the advent of proton is great, but it'll never replace the feel of having something running natively on my system.

Now all I need is a remaster of Sid Meier's Pirates! and I'll be over the moon!

My favorite Total war ever remastered? This is a great surprise! Insta-bought it when I read this yesterday.
