Quoting: TheSHEEEPOne of the survival games I'm most looking forward to.I'm usually a wait-for-a-final-release kinda dude, but today I just snapped and bought it for me and a friend. Weirdly, I bought it 'cause of an email from Steam saying it was 25% off, even before I came to do my daily doings here on GoL. I'm sure the same thing is going to happen on Feb 2nd when Valheim hits Early Access.
Still holding out for "final" release, though.

Odin is finally pleased so the open-world survival game Valheim releases on February 2

Oh shit oh shit oh shit! :woot: Gonna buy this puppy for myself and at least one other person I can think of. I played the crap out of the demo on itch.io, and I expect I'll play the crap out of this final version as well. (**runs in circles and falls over giggling**)

Quoting: Corben... there is always that one person, that insists of playing this one game which doesn't work... and thus concluding for everybody: Linux is not for gamingYeah, and I totally agree, but I think that one person is pretty much a universal constant, the 'no' in a stadium full of 'yes's. I say: fuck that person.

I almost skipped right past this article because the game just looks like something I wouldn't be interested in, but I didn't understand what the headline meant by "not to sleep on Linux." So I read the article and I'm so glad I did! Everything he said was so affirming, especially where he said, "I do think that ... Linux gamers, ... often get ignored or lied to by larger studios," I all but jumped up, fist pumping the air and shouting "YES! YES! I AM A REAL BOY!!" I'm not sure why, exactly, but I was really happy.
It turns out that I already own this as a part of the Racial Justice and Equality bundle, and watching the video, I've decided I'll give it a try after-all. Wait --- y'know what? I'm gonna just go buy it at Steam right now, give this guy some money just for the things he said.
I'm still not sure what it means "not to sleep on Linux," though.

The news that Steam might have plans to release what seems to be a sort of Linux Steam Live USB with persistence. Cool! It makes sense from Valve's perspective. It offers devs and gamers a way to experiment with Linux.
I'm sure many devs are as aware of Valve's interest in Linux as we are. Remember how we had all those games come out on Linux when SteamOS was announced? Granted, the Steam Machine/OS initiative (just "SteamOS initiative" hereon out) didn't catch on, but devs released on Linux as if it might.
Now, seven years later, when hardly any mainstream AAA or even AA titles are released on Linux, and even Aspyr and Feral have followed the money to greener pastures, Valve continues to put money and resources into Linux Gaming. Why?
Let's not forget, Valve's SteamOS initiative was their response [External Link] to Microsoft's creation of a "walled garden" app store in Windows 8. The "Microsoft Store," as it's now called, seems no less a threat to Steam's revenue than it was in 2012. The more Valve builds dev and user support for Linux gaming through their efforts, the more loyal customers their apt to gain. Just a thought.

I'm simply not wired to listen to someone as calm and tranquil as this for even ten minutes, let alone forty-four, so I haven't watched hardly any of this video. I wonder, then, if he mentions GamerOS having, or having plans to include, media playing abilities, streaming Netflix etc., or playing local video and music ... features I saw introduced during the life of my X360. (Without these standard console functions, I think SteamOS was sort of doomed from the start.)
I'm perfectly happy with my current Linux living room/TV computer at the moment, but my other one, my Windows 7 box, its days are numbered --- and will not be extended by "upgrading" to Win10. It seems like a perfect candidate for a future version of GamerOS.
An exciting project, to be sure!

Valve knows the world economy is going to tank and has been positioning themselves as the source for Linux gaming because everyone will be out of work, and no one will be able to afford new Windows or Apple machines.
Looks like we may see Steam properly on Chrome OS by the end of 2021

This reminds me. I need to install Steam's app on my new (to me) LineageOS smartphone.
Anyway, sounds like great news ... unless Google somehow begins specifically porting games over to ChromeOS using a locked down modded-Linux Steam client, and Steam adds ChromeOS to it's list of platforms and --- sigh. I'm sorry, I'm just sooooo cynical where it comes to Google.
We all knew a motto like "Don't be evil" was a bad sign.

Even though I'm not really big on platformers, I bought VVVVVV as soon as it was released. It looked so easy. It is not easy. Go buy it and see for yourself, I hear the dev is a pretty awesome dude, supports open source.
Kudos and Thank you to Mr. Cavanagh for acting on his convictions and sharing his creation with the world.
