Gyroscope tool JoyShockMapper comes to Linux, Valve adds 'Flick stick' to Steam Input

My partial solution has been to create a series of "templates" to use as a basis for setting up new profiles. For instance, since I almost always set up WASD on my left pad (all I have to do is touch the pad to change direction; joystick is a DPad for me), so I have a few templates already set up for that. These templates also have other common FPS/3PS settings already set up as I like them: left pad click = SHIFT to sprint, left guard/paddle = CTRL to crouch, right guard/paddle = SPACE to jump, etc.
So I have things like "Template-WASD-DP" (DP stands for "Dual Pad", explained above), "Template-WASD-JS" (JS = joystick), "Template-xbox-DP", "Template-xbox-JS", etc.
None of it eliminates futzing around with the SC before playing, but it makes it easier. Using Kozec's SC-Controller [External Link] app makes it easier still because it can be set-up with a keyboard and mouse and being able to copy-paste settings from one profile to another. :)

Quoting: Dunc*The Steam Controller's good, but it can be a pain to set up and “tune”, especially with the gyro.Indeed. Setting up my SC for every new game can be a drag when what I really want to do with a new game is just jump in and start playing it!

Quoting: stuffAn excellent explanation! I wanted to add that the sensitivity for this setup that I read about, and have been using for years now, is to set the pad sensitivity so that swiping across the entire surface of the pad turns the camera 180 degrees. It's fast, but not outrageous. (The sensitivity of the gyro I set differently depending on the game.) :)Quoting: MacabreHeartNice stuff, I've always liked the idea of doing the camera via the gyro but always got stuck because steam input's mapping was doing mouse like camera rather than thumstick/steering wheel like. This meant that any right turn turned your camera right which doesn't work when you've just turned left but need to return the controller to it's basic position cause that just turns you back to your old forward direction. The flick stick idea would fix this but a steering wheel mode would also be great. My setting (it was someone else's I modified slightly) works as follows:
- The camera / raw direction is done with the track pad
- The fine aiming is done with gyro
- gyro only activates when the thumb is on the trackpad
So your problem with the turning back would not be a real problem because you look in the direction you want with the trackpad and not with the gyro. You need a rather high sensitivitiy / acceleration on the trackpad for that, though ....

Quoting: Liam DaweDo please consider adding this to your excellent beginner's guide? (I called it your primer, but this is what I was thinking of :))Quoting: NanobangLiam, I'd like to suggest adding this, whole-cloth, to your already existing Proton/SteamPlay primer. This article was exactly the kind of concise-but-clear info someone like me wonders about. Really excellent work! :grin:We have a dedicated page, which links to a proper guide ;)

Dying Light. My friend and I are only about halfway through the first play-through and are already Legendary lvl 6. We'll often spend hours just running around killing zeds without doing a mission. I mean, we set out to do a mission, but get distracted killing zombies en route and ... well, you get the picture. We're having a lot of fun. ;)

Pity about the limitations for new players, but a small sacrifice to keep the shit-slinging sub-humans from spoiling the fun of actual people just trying to play a game. Players don't cheat, cheaters don't play, and assholes only ever spew shit. Hit 'em with the ban hammer until they're ban-hamburger!

Whenever I think of Google using Linux, I think of how Google make things from that can't be used in Linux.
I can't get any more excited about Chrome OS than I can about Android ... both of which are based on Linux, but neither of which are actually Linux --- thus the need for a VM to run Linux's Steam client.
I really don't feel gaming on Chrome OS is any more appropriate to Linux gaming than gaming on Android is, really.

Admittedly, I haven't been to Navezgane since v. 18, so things may be different now, but I've been playing since v.8 (I think) and I have a couple combat pointers you may find helpful in the early game:
Quoting: scainea) The starting bow seems mildly less useless. Still not great, but at least I was hitting with it more than not. That's a relief!Since I love the bow, even the early one, I find it far from useless (or vise versa) but you gotta land --- often multiple --- headshots, two or three as I recall, fwip, fwip, thunk. You'll also have to learn to gauge the arc on the shot. The starter bow isn't very powerful, as is only proper, so aiming above the head is normal at range. Pay attention to the visual space between the tip of the arrow and the target's head. If you overshoot, reduce the space a bit, and if you undershoot, increase the space.
Quoting: scaineb) Melee feel chunkier. It was always a game that didn't quite "connect" before, and there's still that strange distance that you need to just experiment with to know when you can hit, but they can't. In the past, that felt a bit floaty, but now it feels more solid. Can't wait to get my sledgehammer to try it out more... directly. :grin:It's true you gotta experiment with how close you need to be to hit the zombies, but it's not random, I don't think. It seems to equate with the length of the weapon in hand. In most cases, in the hurly-burly of a fight, if you're able to hit them, they're probs able to hit you. And the shorter the weapon, the more likely that is to happen. Rather than worry overly about that exact distance, I focus on quickly jumping in and out of striking distance and, or trying to get on their side or behind them. Jump forward (usually right after they take an unsuccessful swing) whomp 'em, then immediately jump back again. Rinse, repeat. :)

I bought this game on a lark (and on sale, I'm sure) back in 2016, played it for a few hours with a buddy and put it out of my mind. It was good fun and seriously funny. I couldn't stop smiling at the earnest expressions plastered on the faces of everybody's oversized cube heads, a sublime, cartoon-y mayhem.
Back then, there simply wasn't much to it, a handful of scenarios, the arena, and it was over. I was glad when I would see that it had an update (because its an Early Access game, and it meant that the game was still being developed) but I really never paid much attention to what was being updated.
Now it has a campaign? I'm gonna have to play it again, see where it's at! I highly recommend it to all but the dourest of gamers. You don't have to be at all into FPSs, if you have a sense of humour, if you still laugh at Chuck Jones era Warner Brothers cartoons, then you're gonna enjoy this game!
