This is nice. Now Steam, please, please, bring the desktop client Store page out of the age of a 4:3 aspect ratio and into the 21st century.

If I don't feel I can afford to donate money, I can donate a kind word, or words.

  • A simple "Thank you for all the work you've done" in a comment or email;

  • I can leave glowing comments on forums or sosh meeds about how much I love using a project;

  • I can help by translating for a project, or part of a project;

  • Or if a project's translation to my language is a bit rough, I can offer gentle help getting it corrected;

  • If I report a bug or an issue, I can mention how much I like the project at the same time;

  • I can write a friendly text or e-mail to the dev(s), sharing my experience with their project and what I like about it.

Sometimes all we can do is be kind, supportive, and friendly. It's not money, but it can make all the difference in someone's day, week, or even life.

Multiplayer voxel RPG 'Veloren' v0.14 out with musical instruments, more graphics work

It's so pretty. It can be fun to play big open world sandbox-y games while they're being worked on. It gives me a sense of having a personal stake in a game, watching it expand and gain polish. Valheim, 7 Days to Die, Rising World, all games I've watched grow up from stumbling, awkward little balls of code into something ever more sophisticated. I think the Veloren crew are building with care and foresight, laying down a solid base upon which to bring their world to life. I'm glad this project is still ticking along.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti launches January 5th

I've always used NVIDIA GPUs, and they've always been pricey. Pricey enough I only bought them a generation or two behind whatever was newest. And that's been okay, up until recently, anyways. The price of this newest bit of NVIDIA kit reassures me I've made the right decision buying an AMD GPU in the near future.

We may get a Steam Controller 2, plus fun updates coming to Steam Deck
16 Dec 2022 at 4:13 pm UTC

It broke my heart when word came down that there would be no new Steam Controllers, and since then, gaming sessions feel a little ... bittersweet, like getting coffee with a dying friend. But news that there's talk of a Steam Controller 2? That's like getting news that there's a chance I'll get a new, better friend---maybe even before my dying friend ... dies?

Yeah, that sounds wrong. So, Steam Controller v 2.0? Awesome! Replacing dying friends? Not so awesome.

Wine manager Bottles default runner now based on Valve's Wine fork and Proton
14 Jul 2022 at 1:18 pm UTC Likes: 1

Yay! Maybe I can get something running with this version --- I had zero success running anything on the last stable version of (Cafe) Bottles. Most of the time it just hung, its last words, "Configuring bottles," before it did its best impression of a stone and just sat there. After a couple of hours of poking around with its various buttons, dials, and switches, I never got a game going, and I moved on to the business of living my life.

I'm pretty sure it's just my own ignorance about Wine. I was never very good using Wine and now it's been years since I last used Wine for anything. I mean, at least since before Proton made the scene.

Nevertheless, I remain ever hopeful that programs like Bottles, or Heroic, or --- well, even Lutris I suppose, (big tangled ball of barbed wire that it is to me) --- may one day make running non-Steam Windows games easier for me than firing up my old Win 7 box. I haven't used it since Proton came out, either.

So I'm gonna go download Soda right now. I hope it tastes good.

Ok, now that I've got everything in both bundles, I should probably figure out how to get "Bottles" working. :unsure:
