I don't care what roles my friends want to play, just so long as they remember

Obversion is a slow, peaceful and satisfying first-person puzzler out now

Liam, please, what would you say the estimated length of the game might be? (Taking into account that everyone's puzzle-solving abilities will be different, of course.)

Have an Intel processor? Enjoy two more vulnerabilities

My i7-4790 has served me very well for many years, but lately I've been itching to upgrade the older MoBo it lives in and leave LGA-1050 altogether.

I've been eyeballing AMD MoBos/CPUs because, lets face it---there is just more bang in them hard-earned bucks. I'm still saving up because I'm aiming for the future "proofing" that latest gen will get me, but it's gonna be AMD this time around.

I'd already made up my mind. This article is just a thumbs-up from the Universe. :)

The Frictional Games teaser has grown again - oh no it's going to be a monster isn't it

Sounds like Frictional games is pregnant ... with a demon baby!

Need a distraction-free art application on Linux? Try out MyPaint

I love MyPaint! As a consummate doodler and sometimes illustrator/cartoonist over the better part of 50 years, I can tell you that MyPaint is the closest thing I've found to working on paper, to grabbing a pencil or pen and a piece of paper. I can pretty much just open it and and begin. It really is a different beast altogether.

Detailed open-world space sandbox game 'Avorion' leaving Early Access soon
18 Jan 2020 at 3:15 pm UTC

Oooo ... I've owned Avorion for awhile now, but I've been waiting for this to leave EAccess before playing it, for it to be more or less gelled into its final form. I'm pretty excited, I have to say. :)

Google plan over 120 Stadia games this year, 10 coming to Stadia before other platforms
17 Jan 2020 at 2:55 pm UTC

Google: the company that owns everything Amazon doesn't. One hundred and twenty games seems pretty chintzy to me, at least for a big-bellied behemoth such as Google. Sort of sends the message "Our commitment to Stadia is ... meh."

Steam Play Proton 4.11-12 is out
16 Jan 2020 at 1:40 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: liamDXVK, the translation layer the converts Direct 3D 9/10/11 to Vulkan which forms part of Proton was upgraded to the 1.5.1 release from last week. So all the changes there like performance improvements for D3D9 ...
Is D9VK still considered experimental in DXVK/SteamPlay? Do we still need to use the PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% launch option?

EDIT: Yes, we do:whistle:

This newest update has caused a frequent "Ran out of video memory" error and game crash whilst playing B'lands 2 and I've had to roll back to proton 4.2-9 and lose the juicy VK graphics because of it.

EDIT: I figured out the fix, and it was from here on GoL. First I moved back to Proton 4.11.12, then I added the launch option PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 and all is speedy and well again! :)

Valve continue working behind the scenes for Linux gaming with 'Gamescope'
15 Jan 2020 at 1:44 pm UTC Likes: 1

Valve seem quite prophetic in their launch of SteamOS as the basis for line of console-like gaming PCs (aka "Steam Machines"). With the upcoming console generation looking less like their toy-like forebears and more like their PC competition, Valve is no longer the only company to see the storm clouds brewing for the PC gaming market

Intel has announced the Ghost Canyon NUC [External Link], which uses a modular approach to building a mini-gaming PC, something Razer already appears to be ready to use as the basis for their Tomahawk gaming PC. [External Link].

There's already third party support for Intel's idea, too. Cooler Master [External Link] has introduced their own case for the new gaming NUCs, and Asus has unveiled a mini RTX 2070 [External Link] 2070 "specifically designed" for Intel's new tiny, gaming rig.

Alternate history WWII story-driven tactical RPG 'Broken Lines' new trailer, release soon
11 Jan 2020 at 3:50 pm UTC

Quoting: KimyrielleI'd be curious what the "alternate" history is and how it ties into the storyline, but couldn't find anything about it on their website or on Steam.
Thank you, yes. I watched the video --- twice --- and unless WW II was devoid of fog, I'm at a loss too.
