Dark sci-fi action RPG 'Hellpoint' looks good in the new trailer, still coming to Linux
30 Mar 2019 at 3:01 pm UTC

Well, I've watched the trailer, and I'm still interested in Hellpoint, that's for sure; though, it does look a little "souls-like" at times, doesn't it? I hope it isn't just a sci-fi souls thingy. I don't like the die-and-retry-till-you-figure-out-the-pattern style of gameplay required in those games. It's not a matter of "getting good" (or as the semi-literate trolls say, "git gud) at them as much as not caring enough about the game play to get better. It's not bad gameplay, I just find it tedious.

Regarding the trailer, yeah, it could be better, but it's something new any way. And really, I think it's better than so many I see on Steam. The ones that have decided a slow series of fades between words and scenes [External Link] earn my particular loathing.

After 7 years of development, the sandbox RPG 'Spoxel' is out with a unique spell creation system

The regenerating blocks while mining sounds annoying enough to give me pause, but the big quest indicator in the center of the screen is a deal breaker. That just says, "Bad design," to me. Still, the spell/weapon customization system is very clever, and I enjoyed Starbound and Terraria enough to know that I can enjoy this sort of game. I'll keep an eye on Spoxel's progress.

The action-RPG 'Last Epoch' has a huge new build out, plenty of new features

I had entirely forgotten about this game, which is normal for me. I've had to forget about so many broken Kickstarter promises for Linux releases that it's simply become an automatic response anymore. Still, this sounds like it's well underway, and that's great! I love a good 3D, non-rogue-adjectival-suffix ARPG (note the lack of the letter "J" in there), and there simply needs to be more of them for me to love!

Steampunk first-person survival game 'Volcanoids' has gone through a small evolution
30 Mar 2019 at 12:53 pm UTC

Last night I was playing 7 Days to Die, and as I was digging what I hoped would be an underground aqueduct from a nearby river to a small dell beside my base, I thought, "How cool would it be if this game had a mole-vehicle like Vulcanoid?" "Very," I answered myself, "Every digging game should have mole-vehicles. And jet-packs."

The episode had me wondering, wistfully, how Vulcanoid was coming along, and I looked forward once again to when I would be able to pilot my own burrowing mole-train to the Centre of the Earth. So imagine my delight at the sheer synchronicity of Liam's article!

Huzzah!

I doubt I'll wait till Vulcanoids leaves Early Access before I purchase it. (Did you know that, in 7D2D, water won't flow into a meter-wide tunnel? It just sort of...crumbles into pieces and disappears.) I am, however, certain that at Vulcanoid's rate of progress, we will all be giddily drilling the planet to geological swiss cheese long before 7 Days to Die sorts out its water physics.

Again: Huzzah!

Looks like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 may be coming to Linux

There's a joke about how something "sucks" in all this, I'm certain. XD

Joking aside, I'm pretty excited to see this game coming out and twice as excited now that I hear it looks like it'll be coming to Linux! I started playing the first one (after spending a long time setting up a functional sc-controller profile for it), and I had quite a bit of fun ... until I tried to drink the blood of someone I thought was a bad person, but wasn't, and I became a little less human as a result. Dang! I hate when I drink the wrong blood!

The arabian-themed cyberpunk rogue-lite FPS '1001st Hyper Tower' is out, not running well on Linux

Y'know, I remember when I first heard about this game. It was here on GoL. It was received well enough, but there was a general agreement that the sound effects we were hearing were decidedly sub-par. Someone from the dev team took the time to join the discussion and, not only explain that the sound fx were just "placeholders" but that they would be improved post-haste because of our reaction.

Anytime a dev "drops in" on a discussion here on GoL, I'm impressed. It's one thing to see devs jump into discussions on Reddit. I assume they're registered there as a matter of course, part of media outreach. But GoL is niche, and when I see that a dev takes the time to register here just to join in our discussion about his or her game, I know that I'm seeing a dev that really cares what the Linux community is thinking/saying about a game.

I feel confident that the performance issues Liam mentions will be sorted out before the final release, because I feel that the devs care about their project and what we Linux gamers think. Frankly, I'm pretty excited about the potential of this game!

ATOM RPG had another large update recently continuing to make it a better game

I own Atom, but haven't gotten around to playing it, which, as it turns out, is great. It looks like the longer I wait to play, the bigger and better the play experience is going to be!

The latest teaser for the open-world action adventure game 'Pine' has me needing more, coming to Linux

Whoa! That looks amazing! I will make friends with Moose People, learn their ways, be accepted by them, and live amongst them, and counsel the Moose People leaders to avoid war with the Gator People and instead sneak up on them while they're sleeping and rub their Gator People bellies till they become immobilized in Gator Bliss and then we'll take selfies with them while their zonked and laugh and laugh for years about what a great time we had.

Wishlisted!

Quoting: aristoriasCan the app finally support HiDPI? It is a real pain to use that thing on a 4K monitor ...
Same goes for a 1080p television in the living room. (And before anyone says anything: no, until it stops consuming resources like a herd of swine in a hemp field, Big Picture Mode is not an option. lol.)

Quoting: gradyvuckovicwoo I guess..
This is exactly what my response was going to be, lol.

I mean, it is good in the ways Liam points out, but---and please pardon the ham-fistedness of my analogy---it's good like Hitler had the trains running on time.
