Easy Red, a new WWII FPS has released a Linux version
25 Jan 2018 at 12:55 pm UTC

Oooo, puts me in mind of the very first C.o.D. game. I'm glad you brought this to our attention Liam, because normally I would pass on something like this at first glance. I would (wrongfully) have assumed it was just another tired old multi-player FPS toy. It's so nice to once again see someone making a single-player, campaign-based FPS. That it has such positive reviews is icing on the cake.

Killing Floor 2 for Linux is 'indefinitely on hold' as they can't find a developer

Quoting: hardpenguinVendor lock-in :) The game luckily works with Wine ...
Quoting: GuestIt’s nice to get the explanation of what’s going on behind the scenes. They could make a Wine wrapper…
This is why I gotta call bullshit on Tripwire. If they wanted to release a Linux copy, wrap it in Wine and release it already. If Linux end-users can wrap it in Wine for themselves, surely it wouldn't be hard/expensive to do so for a Steam release?

Until Tripwire decides to man-up and keep their word, I'll see if I can't find a cracked Windows version to run in Wine. I'm sure as shit not gonna buy one, unless they release it on Linux.

The MMO 'Project: Gorgon' has an experimental Linux version, it's not bad at all & free for now

JASEM is a bright and flashy twin-stick shooter with a lot to love about it
11 Jan 2018 at 2:47 pm UTC

Oooo, it does look like fun! Most TSSs are focused on slaying groups/hordes of rapidly approaching enemies. This looks more nuanced, more tactical. Kinda puts me in mind of something like Meltdown [External Link], which could technically be called a "twin stick shooter," but describes itself as a "tactical arcade shooter," and, which, if you haven't played it, is well worth checking out too.

JASEM is definitely going on the wishlist!

Graphics shmaphics. It's in alpha. Looks fine to me. Since gameplay is what playing a game is all about, that's what interests me. That it's sandbox is groovy, and classless, usage based skills is a welcome approach. Presumably, it's open world too?

The only thing gives me pause: Is it yet another PvP-centric or "competitive clique" (i.e., guilds, tribes, etc.) MMORPG? It's unclear to me from the video.

GOG have a little sale on again, time to get some cheap games

I still haven´t gotten around to playing that game. I really wanted to wait for "Divinity II" to be confirmed for linux porting, before I started playing the original.

It´s supposed to be really good though.
I thought it was. In fact, it was the game that opened me up to turn-based combat games. What little experience I had previously left me a bit ... bored? Certainly not very interested. But, it should be noted that I'm not much of a "story" guy, preferring to get my narrative in movies and novels. I know that for some, CRPGs are first and foremost seen as a storytelling genre, and I can see how DOS might leave them a little flat. But I was thoroughly entertained, and that's what I play video games for. :)

SteamOS has a fresh beta update with some major package updates
5 Jan 2018 at 3:56 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweWhat are your hopes for SteamOS/Steam Machines in 2018?
My hope is that Valve demonstrate a bit more commitment to SteamOS. I would like one beta update per month to be the unremarkable norm and not cause for excitement. I would like to see an ability to at last BROADCAST! I would like to learn that Valve were helping devs port games to Linux, maybe offering a monetary incentive to do so.

My hope for SteamOS in 2018 is that I'll feel more hopeful about SteamOS in 2018.

Critical Annihilation is an explosion-heavy and stupidly fun twin-stick shooter
