Couch gaming Linux distribution ChimeraOS has a new release

I'm a huge fan of what ChimeraOS (nee GamerOS) is doing (even if I'm not an actual COS user) and I see it as another example of the power of Open Source software in action. SteamOS was rushed out undercooked and then abandoned by Valve relatively quickly, and ChimeraOS stepped in, dusted it off, and set about bringing it up-to-date and even expanding functionality beyond anything Valve would have done.

So I offer a hearty skål! to ChimeraOS and its makers.

Happy Birthday to Linux, 30 years strong

Thank you Linus for your creation and to all the countless Community members who've tended and nourished it to become what it is today.

Windows and I were never going to be friends. Win XE was the last time I used a Windows-only laptop. Slow and stupid, it would sometimes hang like it just forgot what it was doing, or start doing some random thing I'd not asked it to: "Got a term paper to write? Great! That's a great time to check the disk integrity!" CTRL + ALT + DEL, and even the power button wouldn't always make it stop, so I would just yank the power cord from the wall outlet. An OH-YEAH?-WELL-FUCK-YOU! shut down, I called it.

Without Linux's speed and transparency, I would game on a console and that would be the extent of my personal computing.

Happy Birthday Linux, and thank you.

Office Point Rescue - Out the Office is a wonderful homage to retro shooters

Cute FPS, and reasonably laid back too --- especially at this early stage. The white noise sound fx had me grinning even while the music ... I'll need to turn the music off. I might give Office Point Rescue - Deja Vu a try.

I swear, one finds the shiniest little gems on itch.io.

Debian 11 "bullseye" is officially out now

When I re-install Debian on my test lappy I'll be sure to start a thread in the GoL forums if I run into any further problems understanding this. As I write this I can't quite remember what my specific problem was, but I do remember being bouncing between a lot of web pages. Ya'll's help here has been great, thanks.

Quoting: dpanterAvoid PPA bullcrap and the Nvidia website driver. These can and likely will break your system.
Thanks for the heads up on this!

Quoting: slaapliedjesu -
sed -i s/main/main\ contrib\ non\-free\/g /etc/apt/sources.list
apt update
apt install nvidia-driver
reboot
Thank you. :)

Unfortunately not really, after you installed from a "non-free" medium, you have to do the complicated "apt-get install nvidia-driver" - once.
Your sarcasm has been noted. :P

I tried Deb 11 XFCE on my lappy just last week, as a matter of fact. I was enjoying it until it came time to install a proper Nvidia driver, and I balked. Eek! Back to Mint Uma --- le sigh.

I'm now a true convert after using a Vertical Mouse

Quoting: KeyrockI've been #TeamTrackball for decades, once I got past the initial weirdness of the change, which lasted roughly 1 day, I found them way more comfortable to use. To be specific, I prefer trackballs where you move the ball with your index, middle, and/or ring finger, rather than your thumb.
I'd be keen to hear more about this Keyrock. Would you be willing to post a link or picture of your model mouse? I've become so enamored with the trackball emulation on the Steam Controller that it's like slogging through waist deep snow whenever I have to resort to a track or mouse pad (calf-deep snow with a mouse). I'm already making plans for what to use when all three of my Steam Controllers break beyond repair.

Go 1v1 against another player (or a CPU) in a fighting mode. With cars. I dunno either, I came up with it while in the shower.
This one is pretty hilarious and sounds really spontaneous!
Outside the digital realm, there was a classic tabletop tactical game called "Car Wars" which eventually got a roleplaying game version. Just saying, there's always been an appeal to fighting cars. Taps into primal urges to machine-gun that fink tailgating you on the freeway.
OMG --- Steve Jackson Games --- Oh shit! Metagaming! Games that came in plastic bags! Ogre, GEV, Melee, Wizard, Chitin I, One World ... Jeez I miss my California childhood. :(
Making me remember... Played a lot of Death Track, "couple of years ago", on a 386...

Oooo, never heard of Keychron, but I like the looks of their K4 and C2 models. They need a proper return key though. ;)
