Unforgiving but addictive 3D top-down shooter 'Redie' is now out on Steam, demo available and some thoughts

This game is simply gorgeous! Those who honk "Hotline Miami clone" really aren't giving the developers their rightful due. This game has a life and style all its own and earns its stripes honestly. Try it out!

Some thoughts on 'The Dwarves', the new action RPG from KING Art, a bit unpolished

I'll be buying the game. It's only a matter of how much I'll be spending when I do.

Nice write up Liam!

Oh the pain of bad timing. I have been awaiting Anima for what seems like aeons, and it comes to Linux during pre-Chrismahanukuanzika game-buying freeze. Still, this hell that is the holiday season shall pass and one day, Anima, YOU SHALL BE MINE! Bwaha! Bwahahahahaha!

Nearly 4 years later, Steam still won’t close to the tray icon on Linux without workarounds

I use the Gnome desktop on top of vanilla Ubuntu 16.04 and it works there too.

Hmmm. I haven't used the Unity desktop in ages. It may be time to re-visit Ubuntu Gnome. :)

A basic extension of the 'Never pre-order' rule, as if the port is not out yet your are basically doing just that.

You will need to update your udev rules for the Steam Controller

I was hoping that somehow I would be able to magically apply the SteamOS hotpatch [External Link] and all would be made well again.

Initially I just switched back to the stable branch client, but I can see this particular bork is not going to be fixed by the borkers. [waves fist futilely skywards, cursing the fates]

I had forgotten I used to use the Steam released steam client, but switched to Ubuntu's version when there was the "You're running an outdated version" message every time I started Steam. Is that bug still a problem, does anybody know?

A quick video on SC Controller's new gestures feature, the standalone UI and driver for the Steam Controller
18 Nov 2016 at 1:34 pm UTC

Thanks for the video, Liam! Alas, I don't know what I just saw, though I watched it four times. Lol. Please tell me it's because I have no experience with either SC controller or Dota 2. But having used mouse gestures in various browsers, I think I might have an idea what is being discussed.

What really caught my attention was your saying, "What's great is that it can happily work alongside Steam, as you can turn off SC Controller at any time." What happens when the two drivers are on at the same time? For example, if I'm using SCC on the desktop, yeah? And I use it to start Steam, could I keep using it while Steam runs, or must I hurriedly turn SCC off immediately after starting Steam? What happens if Steam starts and I still have SCC running?

Why don't I just install it and find out for myself? That is a good question to which I have no good answer. I'll say it's because I hadn't thought to do that until just now. :D Time to install SCC!

Albion Online is to get another impressive content update named 'Faye'
17 Nov 2016 at 1:18 pm UTC

I am by nature an amiable loner, and so I tend to avoid most PvP gameplay and shy away from joining formal guilds, groups, and teams. I want to support Albion Online --- I've looked it over several times after Liam has written about it here --- but its focus on PvP and Guilds just doesn't sound like it's for me. I'm pinning most of my MMORPG hopes on either open-sourced Ryzom or Runescape, I'm afraid.
