Heavy Gear Assault heading to Linux

Like all games that can't well convey what they are and what they're about, Heavy Gear Assault makes me uneasy, setting off my CAVEAT EMPTOR alarm.
I'll just wait till this one fully matures, I think.

Quoting: The Boss. . . I find their website a little confusing to find out exactly what is in the game right now.Thank goodness, it's not just me! :D

Huh. Well, on the one hand, he has been working on it for years it seems, so maybe he just wants something, anything, to launch, and Windows is where the bucks are. Ok, I can get that, I suppose.
But on the other hand, maybe it's like Mountain Man posted above:
I'm inclined to be less impressed with Enemy Starfighter than I might have been because that, to me, implies a dearth of planning skills, foresight, and even imagination. Even the title, Enemy Starfighter, seems more like a utilitarian afterthought than any real attempt to capture the imagination.
Developers who fail to follow through on a promised Linux port are no loss to me. The loss is all theirs.
But on the other hand, maybe it's like Mountain Man posted above:
Quoting: Mountain ManSounds like another developer who painted himself into a corner with the "develop for Windows now, port to Linux later" attitude.I'm wondering if his mentioned "export tests" were the first time he realized that there was going to be more to creating Linux and Mac versions than simply clicking "Export."

"Singleplayer Rogue-like gameplay with persistent progression,"
Could someone help me understand this statement? It seems like an oxymoron to me.
Whatever else it might imply, I've always understood that the term rogue-like means perma-death will be involved.
When I see "perma-death," I think "gormless-tedium," and skip on to the next game description. But Everspace's claim to persistent progression gives me hope there might be more here than meets the eye.
So "Rogue-like gameplay with persistent progression." Any ideas?

CHKN is probably the weirdest sandbox game I've ever seen, coming to Linux on April 1st

I've been following this game for a while now and already have it on my wishlist. It's always nice to see a project like CHKN come along: a new twist to a well worn genre. It's even nicer when the devs have been regular and frequent with their updates because it gives me hope that there will be a final product.
I'm looking forward to CHKN waddle-hop-slither-fly-ing out of EA. Thanks for spotlighting it Boss!

I've got a lot of hours on PD2, and have sorta accreted an informal list of pointers for new players. I'll offer some here hoping they'll help fellow Penguin Heisters just starting out joining missions online:
* Love it LOUD. Focus on loud-only missions. Stealth missions are easier to screw up for the team than loud missions. Most missions can be played either way, but some are strictly loud. [External Link]
* Amateurs ain't Pro. In the very beginning, consider avoiding Pro missions. Pro missions are indicated on the map by a red square around the mission symbol. Pro missions cannot be re-played if failed, so screw-ups matter more.
* When in Doubt, Just Help Out. Of course killing cops is always helpful, but if someone's moving bags, then help with the bags. If someone's picking a lock, watch their back. If someone is healing a downed teammate, provide cover fire. Like that.
* Newbie, be Proud. Sometimes it helps to remind people up front that you're new. Typing things like "I'm new, sorry if I screw up." or, "I've never done this mission before. Let me know what you want me to do." before the mission begins can gain you a lot of help and tolerance.
* Stay in Sight. You'll see some players running around way far away from the rest of the group. That's their business. Stay with the group or try to maintain a line-of-site with one or more crew mates. Cloakers and Tazers are gonna take people down, but only those that can be reached by their teammates are gonna get helped back up.
* It's All Good. Laugh. Be upbeat, encouraging, and have fun. Send friend requests to helpful or friendly hosts and players. Leave a game if you're getting unfair abuse, and remember that anybody who kicks you without fair warning did you a favor. That person was an asshole, and you didn't want to play with them anyway. :D

Quoting: TheBossThat said, people who have played it for a while tend to rage at you if you mess up even a little bit, as I found out.Being known as a fair, non-raging, even helpful PD2 host has gotten me a lot of friend requests over the years for this very reason.

I'll not refuse to play a game simply because the developer or publisher "lied," changed their mind, or were simply the victims of capitalist Cerberus of time, resources, and a capricious marketplace. If I did, I wouldn't own Divinity: Original Sin, or Stanley Paradox, or so many other solid quality titles.
Having played Payday 2 since before any DLC, after 1,200+ hours I've seen and played it all. I boycotted the game briefly when the micro-transactions were first introduced and began playing again when the skin/mods were made available in-game, without purchase. The little bonuses the mods add are negligible and unnoticeable in general play, really.
Payday 2 is an action-soaked, wildly-replayable co-op shooter par excellence. It's often on sale for a very modest sum, and a real boon to the Linux community's game Library.

Interstellar Marines seeking funding again as they let staff go

I tried this game out with a friend a little over a year ago during a "free weekend." At first we were impressed by the quality, but that quickly wore off with the unremarkable and repetitious settings and missions.
Most disappointingly of all, there seemed to be nothing "Interstellar" about any of it. No aliens, no purple flora nor phosphorescent fauna, no gigantic ringed planets hanging pendulously in the night sky. No green women. Nothing but a hole where all the imagination should have been.
It's disappointing when something as promising as Interstellar Marines fails to grow and thrive. I hope the devs can turn it around, but at this point I would feel a guilty relief if they just pulled the plug and let it die.
